Type O Negative – “Profit of doom”

by on Apr.28, 2007, under articles

I’m of the opinion that in listening to this, one has to have a certain sense of humor. This song must be done in jest. With Peter Steele’s dark, doom-like voice, singing these words seems to be what they didn’t want to achieve: sounding corporate.

I like Type O Negative, don’t get me wrong. Toward the end of the song, it got easier for me to like it. Maybe it’s one of those things that just grow on you.

What do you think?

Update: Type O Negative is on tour with Celtic Frost and Brand New Sin. Read about it here.

Another Problogger contest

by on Apr.27, 2007, under Uncategorized

The last time I participated in Darren Rowse’s Problogger contest, I had a lot of fun. I wrote about Britney Spears’ 2007 possible comeback and actually won a $100 gift card.

These contests are a fun and creative way to get people who normally wouldn’t share the link love, to do so. I can’t wait to do this again. It sounds as if the prize will be pretty nifty this time around, too.

Good luck to all that enter, I’ll be there in the mix, too.

Celine Dion & Elvis Presley – “I can dream” on Idol Gives Back

by on Apr.27, 2007, under articles

This is a really good and at the same time, weird video of Celine Dion doing a duet with the king, Elvis Presley. Kudos to American Idol for making this happen.

Creepy, but still good.

Eve’s drunk driving incident

by on Apr.26, 2007, under articles

Rapper Eve Jeffers, all known to us as “Eve”, was arrested Thursday for suspicion of DUI after crashing her Maserati into a divider on Hollywood Boulevard.

From the article:

Police officer Martha Garcia of the Los Angeles Police Department reported the accident occurred at around 2:45 a.m., when the 28-year-old rapper, born Eve Jeffers, lost control of her gold-colored ride and smashed into the cement median at the intersection of Sycamore Avenue.

Eve was handcuffed and taken into custody by Los Angeles Police Department officers just before 3:00 am. She was released several hours later after posting $30,000 bail. She is scheduled to return in court on May 17 to face a misdemeanor charge.

The entertainer did submit to testing to determine her blood alcohol level and according to TMZ.com, Eve’s blood alcohol level was “double the legal limit.”

This just goes to show you that even though you’re a celebrity, you’re not above the law.

American Idol – Idol Gives Back 4/24/07

by on Apr.25, 2007, under articles

First up on this special episode of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell travel to Africa to learn of the deplorable conditions of living in such poverty. Ryan looks like he could use a shave and Simon looks sad and emotional, for once.

To lead off the competition tonight is Chris Richardson singing, “Change the world” by Eric Clapton.

I wasn’t too fond of this version of the song. I’m a fan of Clapton’s music and this didn’t come close for me. The judges seemed to eat it up, but I don’t think so!

The judges visited Louisiana, Kentucky, Chinle, and Atlanta, to see poverty in our own nation.
Next up is Melinda Doolittle singing Faith Hill’s song, “There will come a day”.

Very nicely done, I like her vocals. She is going to be hard to beat this season.

Blake Lewis is up next to answer a viewer’s question as to what his biggest sacrifice, which is his family. He sings John Lennon’s “Imagine”. The song lends itself to blandness and I don’t think it was a good song choice for Blake.

Next up is Lakisha Jones, singing Fantasia Barrino’s “I believe”.

It was a little rough in the beginning and somewhat pitchy, but I don’t see this as a real competition if Lakisha goes before Chris Richardson.

Up next is Votefortheworst’s choice, Phil Stacey. He is asked what he misses most about home, to which he answers, his babies. He sing’s Garth Brooks’ “The change”.

I think he butchered it, just my two cents, though.

Finally and last, but not least is Jordin Sparks singing “You’ll never walk alone”.

I wasn’t as impressed as I normally would be with her singing. It seemed to me that she was shouting a bit and it sounded fake. I disagree with the judges on this one, too.

New video review: Corinna Fugate – “Heart like a grave”

by on Apr.23, 2007, under articles

Corinna Fugate’s song, “Heart like a grave” appears on her album, “Snow White”. This album, being her fifth, was released in the spring of 2006. This video, however, was just released in honor of the movie, “Interview with a vampire”.

This video is compiled only of scenes from the movie, which, unlike her other videos, seems to tell a story. Along with the lyrics and the video montage of Claudia, the young vampiress from the movie, this video is just nifty and well put together.

Verdict: Makes me wanna watch “Interview with a vampire” to see Tom Cruise before his weird scientology days.

Enjoy!

Iggy Pop turned 60 & celebrated with a stage dive

by on Apr.22, 2007, under articles

Punk rocker and proclaimed “Godfather of punk”, Iggy Pop, real name Jim Osterberg, celebrated his birthday by doing a stage dive into fans. While performing with The Stooges, he also invited them to get on the stage with him and sing.

According to the article:

He muttered a few thanks before resuming his usual routine: manic singing and dancing, scampering on to the speakers and throwing his microphone stand around.

During the Stooges classic No Fun, he invited fans in the mosh pit to jump on to the stage, and sing along with him.

Is Phil Stacey really the worst?

by on Apr.22, 2007, under articles

Votefortheworst.com is at it again, they are urging the American public to vote for the worst. Now that Sanjaya Malakar has been axed from the show, they are asking that we call in our votes for Phil Stacey.

My question is, is Phil Stacey really the worst out of the six remaining idol wannabes? My vote for the worst would definitely have went to Chris Richardson after his “Smooth” performance.

Sanjaya gets the axe on American Idol

by on Apr.18, 2007, under articles

Woot! Finally, America has spoken, and Sanjaya Malakar has been voted off of the show! Finally!

With his crappy rendition of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to talk about”, he found himself in the bottom two with Lakisha Jones. I just knew that they couldn’t kick Lakisha off of the show.

Yay! Now we can have a real American Idol and people won’t be in droves to turn off Fox when American Idol is on.

Lily Allen cancels US tour dates

by on Apr.18, 2007, under articles

Lily Allen has canceled some of her US tour dates, as per Pitchfork Media’s story:

I just feel like it’s been dragged out for so long, and that– you know, the show isn’t as good as it was, because I’m having to sing so much. And I’ve been getting really drunk in order to even look at the stage, and I don’t think it’s fair to take money off of people when the show isn’t going to be very good. So that’s the first thing.

So it looks like there will be no House of Blues show here in Cleveland, as previously planned. That would’ve been an awesome show. Lily come back to Ohio!

She says:

“The people who haven’t heard of me yet, or who haven’t seen me play, can wait till the next album, because I’ll be back.”

I say: I don’t want to wait.

Just my .02

With no readily available video of last night’s American Idol performance of Jordin Sparks doing Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing”, here we have the young 14-year old Sparks doing her version of the song. To have that much talent at such a young age, she could walk away as the crowned American Idol champ.

The fall of Sanjaya?!?!??

by on Apr.18, 2007, under articles

Last night’s performance of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something To Talk About” might have given America what it needed to do the necessary thing….which is finally, once and for all, give Sanjaya Malakar, the boot! This was basically a terrible karaoke version of this song and Simon was right to say that it was utterly horrendous.

If this is truly a singing competition, then let Sanjaya go already! It’s bad enough that this clown is going to be on tour…

Take a look for yourself:

American Idol 4/10/07

by on Apr.11, 2007, under articles

Starting off last night was Melinda Doolittle singing “Sway”. Very good performance. She picked on Simon saying that he was looking for something bad to say, when he said that she very cabaret. I disagree, this was a great performance.

Next up was Lakisha Jones doing “Conga”. I was singing at home along with this tune. She definitely pulled this song off and I don’t think it was a safe song selection at all.

Chris Richardson was up next doing his butchering of “Smooth” by Santana & Rob Thomas. Good lord, this guy was pitchy and this was the Sanjaya of suck. Covering this track made me cover my ears. Somewhere Rob Thomas is choking.

Haley Scarnato was up after that with her rendition of “Turn The Beat Around”. She looked like she was having a fun time, but no one noticed besides Simon, that she killed it.

Phil Stacey was up doing his version of “Maria, Maria” by Carlos Santana. There were parts of this song that I liked, but for the most part, he murdered it.

Jordin Sparks covered “The Rhythm Is Going To Get You”. She did a wonderful job and showed all of the enthusiasm a seventeen year old should have. She had a great time and did a great job. She’s not going anywhere.

Blake Lewis then did Mark Anthony’s “I Need To Know”. Very good choice of song and he performed it nicely.

Sanjaya Malakar did “Besame Mucho” last night and did half-way decent. I’ve never heard the original on this one, but it didn’t 100% suck. Simon agreed, stating that it “wasn’t horrible”.

The verdict and my prediction:
The bottom three will consist of Haley Scarnato, Phil Stacey, and Chris Richardson. I could be wrong on the Chris Richardson thing, but I really thought he pulled a Sanjaya last night. I don’t know what the judges were raving about.

Who’s getting the boot? My prediction is Haley Scarnato. We will have to watch tonight to know for sure. She should’ve known better not to tear up on stage, though.

Update: I was right!

American Idol’s songwriter challenge

by on Apr.10, 2007, under articles

Want to have your “voice” heard on American Idol? If you have any songwriting and singing talent, record you an MP3 and get it over to American Idol, stat. They are looking for a song with mass appeal and something that would be dedicated to what the Idols are going through now. You don’t have to make several versions of the song for whoever you think will win, either.

Good luck! I’d enter if I had any vocal talent.
