Sexy songstresses need only apply?
I read this over at CNN and was kinda baffled:
She was an “amazing talent,” a young singer with a wonderful voice who wrote beautiful songs. But she was no beauty, plus flat-chested and overweight to boot.
Remembering the aspiring star, music executive Jody Gerson still feels terrible about thinking: “She’s never going to get signed, even though she’s fabulous.”
They compared the two great wonders that American Idol ousted, Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle, to the two remaining contestants, Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks. Saying that Lakisha and Melinda were the two real talents of the show was indeed an understatement. Their talent alone should’ve been enough to end them up in the final two, but unfortunately, it appears that their look is not what the music industry is looking for.
I pride myself on oncovering some real talent, here and there, for my own amusement. I don’t care if you’re fat, skinny, or have a third arm. If you have talent, then you’re going to be on my Ipod.
That’s why when Melinda or Lakisha come out with a CD, I’ll be jumping on that. So what if one was compared to Shrek and the other one is picked on for having a gap in her teeth. So what if they don’t fit the industry standard of what’s hot. They fit into my idea of what a real singing competition should be, and that’s talent. I closed my eyes and listened to the entertainers on that stage while they sang their hearts out, and that’s what America should do, too.
Suck it, Avril.

Lets face facts here, the real fact is Melinda Doolittle was the awesome talent on this years competition. And I would go so far as to say the best voice ever on AI. I would have loved to have seen both Jordin and Blake try and cover Nut Bush City Limits; that alone would have separated the talent from the wanabees.

I totally agree, James. When I heard her revive that classic, I was in total agreement with Simon…she should’ve not only been a part of the final two, she should’ve won the whole shebang. She had nothing but good reviews, all the while remaining humble. She has star quality and will put out some of the best music, after this whole Idol tour crap is over.

I agree 100% with you both. Melinda was by far the best from day one, and such a nice personality. But they know who they want to win from the early days, and by whatever means, they’ll get them.
Roberta - if you like good vocals log onto http://www.kozmicdrive.co.uk. Jade (the curly-haired vocalist) couldn’t even get to see the panel of judges on the uk’s version. They never said the music business was easy!!!

Sheila, I agree I was rooting for Lakisha and Melinda early on and knew one of them would go far. And I was getting tired of hearing Jordin Sparks do the same song AGAIN…I’m checking out that site now….thanks for the tip..

I’m boycotting the finals!!! Do you think they’ll notice!!! I’m hoping that the real talent will win in the end, afterall it’s not always the winners that go on to do the best. I’ll be watching out for news of Melinda, Lakisha and I did like Chris.

I was thinking of boycotting the finals, too. It just seems like a total sham to me now. I don’t know if it’s fixed, but I was really rooting for Melinda or Lakisha to come through in the end.
