Win Suzanne Vega’s new CD, Beauty & Crime before it’s release date!
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles
Yes, it’s a contest!

The rules are simple, all you have to do is leave a genuine comment as to why you’d want to win the cd. This is her new album, Beauty & Crime, which is due out in stores on July 17th. (By genuine comment, I mean leave a thoughtful comment or something that you like about the artist…all others will be removed from the contest)
Get it before it’s out!
It is a very melodic album and has mellow vocals and deep meanings behind the songs. Want to own this copy? Enter now and you’ll have a very good chance of getting it. That’s it, you don’t have to do anything else. The winner will be chosen at random, so your chances are great for winning this excellent cd.
As with most of the reviews I’ll be doing, I’ll be listening to the cd once or twice, then giving it away. Stay tuned for the winner, which will be announced on July 13th. It will be shipped out that day!
Good luck!!
Courtney loves lunchboxes, not Doc Martens
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles

In earlier news when Doc Martens chose to use Kurt Cobain’s image for an ad campaign, Courtney Love was furious. Probably because she didn’t get any moolah for her late husband’s image use. Now, Courtney has sold his image to the US National Entertainment Collectibles Association, so that his image will now be featured on lunchboxes, lighters, flasks, figurines, and dog tags:
Cobain’s figurine comes with his Fender Mustang guitar and he wears the trademark striped shirt he wore in the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video, before his suicide in 1994.
Courtney Love is a hypocrite and Kurt’s picture should not be on lunchboxes or anything of that nature. His story is very tragic and he should be remembered as he was, a very troubled singer. I don’t think he’d care for the idea of being on some kid’s lunchbox.
Bad Courtney, no dollars for you.
Sinead sympathizes with Hollywood’s A-Listers
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles

Maybe it’s because she’s not one herself, but Sinead O’Connor has said that she is appalled by the media’s treatment of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan.
Say what?
She says, “I kind of feel slightly motherly about it. I think it’s horrible the way those girls are treated by the media. I think it’s appalling, Britney Spears especially. I’ve been watching lately the Paris Hilton thing with her being sent to jail and everything, and it’s horrible to see how people are treating her, like laughing at her and making a big joke out of it. In Paris Hilton’s case – OK, she’s famous for being famous – but that doesn’t give anyone the right to abuse and humiliate her.”
Okay, Sinead, whatever you’re smokin’, you need to pass that crap on….puff puff, pass. Don’t mess up the rotation!
Actually I did have the chance to listen to Sinead sing live at the House of Blues a couple of years ago. She was a great performer and it was a rockin’ good time. I don’t think it’s cause to try to keep yourself in the spotlight, though. You have a name that’s recognized and so you use your celebrity status to publicly state that you feel for these socially inept people? All three of the girls that she talks about have some wicked issues. I just have to say this much, if you’re rich enough to be able to afford a nice brand new Mercedes, then hire a driver, dummy.
Wouldn’t you agree?
Lily Allen at the Harry Potter premiere in London
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles

Here, seen on July 3rd at the Order of the Phoenix after show party in London, is British pop star, Lily Allen. It’s funny because I don’t remember her hair being that jet black. Before the event, she was dressed in all white.
Is she an angel by day and a devil by night?
I recently asked Miz Allen for an interview, when she was feeling crappy about herself (re: Amy Winehouse). I got no comment. Not a response of any sort. We’ll still keep listening and one day, we’ll get our interview.
Interview: The Southside Slashers
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles

In this interview, I had the chance to have a talk with Murda 1 of The Southside Slashers. Here, he gives us a peek into the men behind the Horrorcore music, made famous by the Insane Clown Posse.
Q: I’ve heard the song “Since I met you” and it kind of reminds me of something by Eminem. The rhymes are similar. Do you ever hear that? Who are you compared to the most?
A: No, I’ve never heard anyone compare us to Eminem. Although I would find it kind of funny if they did. Our rhymes are a lot different than his. Most people tell us that we have an original sound.
Q: “Underage Coochie” might be attacked by parents everywhere, what are your thoughts on that? Is it condoning pedophilia?
A: Actually I would like it to be attacked by parents everywhere. Usually when a group of people stand up to stop something, they only end up making it bigger. As for the second question…. No I wouldn’t personally condone acts of pedophilia. But, depending on the situation, 17 isn’t so bad….
Q: How would you describe your music to people who’ve never heard any horrorcore music before?
A: I couldn’t explain it to someone. Horrorcore is something to be heard, only than could you understand it. Some people will like it, others will hate it with a passion. Everyone has there own tastes.
Q: Is there an artist that you haven’t worked with yet, that you would like to do a collaboration with?
A: I could name alot. I personally would like to do tracks (And shows) with Tech N9ne, Prozak, Joe Bruce and Shaggs, Twiztid, Blaze and ect.
Q: What influences the lyrics on the new tracks?
A: Mostly what I’m feeling at the time. Everything is an influence, from the horror movies that I watch to the current artist that I’m listening to and everyday struggles.
Q: What is the track that you’re most proud of?
A: Hmmm, that’s a tough one. Probably Haterz and I say that because it has had a lot of good reviews.
Q: What track do you think is your “breakout” song? Haterz?
A: At this point, I would probably have to agree. But theres much more flavor to come. We will have some all new songs up soon that will blow that out of the water!
Q. What do you say to haters?
A: They can hate all they want. In the end all there doing is spreading our name to more people. Hate or not, it’s still getting our name known more. Music needs haters, enough said.
Q: Do you garner a lot of attention from fans of ICP and Twiztid?
A: Yes, I would say that most of our fans also listen to ICP, Twiztid and etc. We’re a Horrorcore group but not to be confused with them or others. We have our own style. Just like people who listen to KoRn might also like Nine Inch Nails because they are both in the Metal genre. But they both have their own style.
Q: Any words of wisdom to the fans?
A: Anything is possible!!!
Gloria Estefan sings the Star Spangled Banner
by Roberta Ferguson on Jul.05, 2007, under articles
At the naturalization ceremony for 1,000 immigrants, Gloria Estefan wow’ed the audience with her rendition of the American classic, on July 4th.
Here is the outfit that she wore:

And for your viewing pleasure, a vid clip of her singing. The quality of this video is rather crappy, but you can hear her sing.
Enjoy!
