I’d snub MTV, too

by Roberta on September 12th, 2007

It’s not like MTV really plays any music anymore. It’s the crap reality shows that they’ve been playing that has been pushing me to watch VH1 Classic. Thus, I feel old. The songs that were played in my day are now classics….hmmm…

MTV has really moved away from where they started. In the beginning, it was all about the music. The videos and the commentary were awesome and well detailed. The interviews were also great.

Having not watched MTV for years, and then watching John Norris at the Pre-VMAs show, I had to wonder, WTF happened to him? He looks like he resorted back to the 80’s with Duran Duran flair. The guyliner and the blonde hair?!??!!

Where have I been all these years while this transformation was happening?

I guess the right answer would be not watching MTV.

Kanye West snubbed MTV:

Rap star Kanye West has vowed never to return to the MTV Awards ever again after not receiving a single gong or being allowed to perform on stage. The ego fuelled hip hop star was reported as saying: “Give a black man a chance” after watching a stream of other music stars file onto the stage to win awards.

I’m snubbing them, too, but for different reasons.

When the VMA’s was on I flipped to MTV2 and they were actually playing music videos. Crappy ones none the less but still actual music videos. I almost forgot what a video was. I guess they wanted all the attention on the VMA’s and figured no one watched music video anymore so why take the attention away from MTV1. They shouldnt even be able to call it mtv anymore.

One of the best channels for music videos was VH1 Classic’s now-defunct sister station VH1 Mega Hits - yeah, it showed the music of now, but it was music videos and a channel that you could just get lost in. However, I’d just rather get the actual music and not bother with the videos; I’ve not really been caught up in the craze of the vids ;)

I agree. I can’t stand MTV and also remember when they played stuff I like to call music. I remember when VH1 was the geek station to like and now they’re way better on a music scale. I started feeling really old when I was listening to the radio one day and the dj says, “Here’s a classic oldie” — it was Nirvana. If Nirvana is classic than I am officially old. Man.

Scott, I am lovin’ MTV2, but it’s not the same as the original MTV. More hard rock and heavy metal videos, in addition to the ONE reality show that they had going on…The Real World was okay at the time, but they just changed everything.

    Jennifer,
    Thanks for stopping by :)
It’s making me crazy when VH1 Classic plays stuff like Iron Maiden, Skid Row, and Guns N Roses, and calls it old. I feel ancient now! lol

I remember back in the day when I could sit and watch music videos all day long and not change the channel. Now I don’t even stop to see what’s on MTV anymore. A lot of people are tired of them not playing music. Maybe they’ll change when they get boycotted.
