Dave Mustaine cares about his fans

by on Oct.16, 2007, under articles

I wrote about how Dave Mustaine was/is looking for personal assistants via his forums two month ago. One fan was more than happy to oblige by winning the opportunity to be Dave’s go-to guy for a day.

He recalls his story here, and from what I see Dave Mustaine cares about his health, the band’s show, and his fans.

Here’s a snippet:

What does he do… grabs some food and sits right across from me. The first words out of his mouth
are an apology to me for when I knocked on the door at 5:00pm to get some CD’s signed and he not realizing it was
already 5:00pm. This is the first of many conversations and exchanges I witness throughout the evening that shows
the kind of person Mustaine really is to his fans. Kind, considerate and humble. Let’s call it what is… Dave’s the
frontman for one of the most famous metal bands of all-time and he didn’t have to even acknowledge who I was…
let alone apologize to me and make sure I felt a part of the team.

The Top Ten Bands You Should Discover Today

by on Oct.12, 2007, under articles

    1. Shiny Toy Guns

Shiny Toy Guns’ is comprised of Jeremy Dawson, Chad Petree, Carah Faye, and Mikey Martin. They say that their music is the sum of three parts, guitars, technology, and melody. It’s the perfect mix of synth meets high-powered vocals. Listen to “You are the one” and you’ll see what I mean.
    Shiny Toy Guns’ MySpace
    Genre: Electronica/Rock
Standout “Listen-to” Track: You Are The One

    2. Dimmu Borgir

The best thing that has ever come out of Norway. I give you, Dimmu Borgir. These guys need no introduction. If you haven’t heard anything from them yet, then there’s no better time than the present.
    Dimmu Borgir’s MySpace
    Genre: Metal
Standout “Listen-to” Track: The Sacrilegious Scorn

    3. The 69 Eyes

With the deep vocals of this band, you can’t pass up tracks like “Gothic Girl” or “Angels”. This is the best gothic rock mix that you’ll find. They are currently touring and getting coverage on MTV. Don’t let that lead you astray, though. This band has the staying power and will keep on rockin’ as long as fans like us are around.
    The 69 Eyes’ MySpace
    Genre: Gothic Rock
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Gothic Girl

    4. Eighteen Visions

This is hard rock music at it’s best. This particular band has that special get up and go that a lot of hard rock bands could only strive for. Listen to this fast-paced musical genius and you’ll find yourself hooked.
    Eighteen Visions’ MySpace
    Genre: Hard Rock
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Victim

    5. Charlie Drown

I don’t think I could say enough good things about this female fronted metal band. Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing the one and only Charlie. She was a delight, indeed. This rock and metal mix has the right combination of good grooves, metal, and attitude. Perfect for driving.
    Charlie Drown’s MySpace
    Genre: Hard Rock/Metal
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Painkiller Lullaby

    6. Man Raze

Born from Def Leppard, The Sex Pistols, and Girl, are Man Raze. “Turn it up” is a song that I can clean house to or just go driving to. Phil Collen of Def Leppard gives the guitars a real working over. Simon Laffy and Paul Cook round off the sound for the music that is essential for your collection. Plus, Girl was awesome in it’s own right. As was The Sex Pistols. Nevermind the bollocks….ehh, you get the idea.
    Man Raze’s MySpace
    Genre: Rock and Roll
Standout “Listen-to” Track: Turn it up

    7. Midnight Syndicate

It’s that time of the year again, folks. You guessed it, it’s that scary Halloween time….and what music is better to put the haunted in the house? Midnight Syndicate will fill that void for you. They make scary piano sounds and music that’s fit for your funeral.
    Midnight Syndicate’s MySpace
    Genre: Halloween Music
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Family Secrets

    8. Black Tide

Black Tide are still rather new, but I couldn’t get over how much they resembled early Motley Crue. Not in the way they look, but in the electricity that they portray in their music. Don’t believe me? Check ‘em out for yourself.
    Black Tide’s MySpace
    Genre: Rock
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Shockwave

    9. Common
This is the perfect mellow hip hop/rap mix of sweet light beats and cool vocals. It’s not gangster rap, and it totally reminds me of Lenny Kravitz.
    Common’s MySpace
    Genre: Hip Hop/Rap
Standout “Listen-to” Track: Drivin’ Me Wild

    10. Emilie Autumn

I love the gothic sound and the toy pianos of Emilie Autumn. This is music that has a whole lot of heart and you can just tell by listening to it that a lot of talent has gone into the production and sound. Again, here’s another artist that I can’t say enough good things about. Check out her screaming in “Opheliac”, it rocks!
    Emilie Autumn’s MySpace
    Genre: Electronic Violin/Gothic/I don’t know :)
    Standout “Listen-to” Track: Opheliac

Blackout by Britney Spears pushed to October 30th

by on Oct.11, 2007, under articles

Fearing that illegal downloads and internet leaks would screw up the release of Britney Spears’ new album, Jive Records has opted to release it earlier than it’s original release date, November 13th.

Jive said it “is doing everything possible to prevent and avoid any further illegal distribution of songs,” including the leaking of “unfinished material and demos represented as completed legitimate songs” to the Internet.

I wasn’t that impressed with her video for Gimme More after I saw the stills of it. She’s desperately trying to cover up that baby gut. She’s not fat, by any means, but I do think she needs to cover that crap up. Just sayin’.

Bret Michaels will be in Rock of Love 2

by on Oct.10, 2007, under articles

So, it’s been confirmed that there will be a season two of Rock of Love and Bret Michaels will be making an encore performance. My hunch is that the producers of the show wanted the reunion show to go the way that it did, so that it would leave the door open for a new season.

Because what happens if Bret and Jes/Heather really did fall in love and live happily ever after? No new show. So Bret keeps the 51 Minds money making machine happy and will star in the new season:

Over 3.9 million total viewers tuned into the “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels” reunion special this past Sunday night (October 7) to learn that Bret’s love match was a mismatch. VH1 will continue to help Bret find his “rose” and announces today that a second season of the record-breaking series will premiere on VH1 in early 2008.

The Osbournes are having a sale

by on Oct.09, 2007, under articles

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are auctioning off items from three of their homes for Sharon’s colon cancer charity. Items include a Regency fruitwood dining room table, a pool table handcrafted for Ozzy, a Les Paul, and a lot of other items, not including Ozzy’s boxer shorts:

Ozzy said: “I don’t know why we are selling everything as I want it all. Sharon tells me that we have to, otherwise our house will f****** explode. As long as she does not ask me for a pair of my boxers for the auction I will support it, especially since it is helping raise funds for her charity.”

I certainly would not want Jack’s bed, though. Since rumors have floated around that he bedded Paris Hilton, you never know what may be lurking in his sheets.

See the official press release here.

Lily Allen’s dad used her to sell drugs

by on Oct.08, 2007, under articles

Keith Allen has admitted that he used eight week old Lily Allen to sell drugs:

Keith reveals: “I didn’t see what was wrong with taking baby Lily along with me as a sales tool, rather like the homeless lads do with dogs.

“Cute puppy guarantees punters will stop and stroke it and therefore give you money. Lil sat next to the stall gurgling in a pushchair while I cranked up the sales patter and knocked out the lager.”

At least she’s moved past that rough start. Knowing that, I take back all the mean things I’ve said about her. I still like her music, too.

Jes says Heather was the right choice for Bret

by on Oct.07, 2007, under articles

On tonight’s Rock of Love: Reunion show, most of the girls were greeted by Bret Michaels, alongside Ricki Rachtman.

Lacey came on and made a fool of herself singing some stupid song that sounded like crap. Sam was on saying that she knew she wouldn’t be able to trust Bret. Rodeo made her plea, stating that if nothing worked out with Jes, she wanted a second chance. She was initially sent home to be with her son.

At the end of the show, Jes said that Bret made the wrong choice and he should’ve picked Heather instead. She said that Heather wears her heart on her sleeve and basically, Bret stomped on it. Was this her clever way of saying that she didn’t really want to be with him? My guess is yes.

Maybe Bret and Heather will work out, but that doesn’t make for good television, now does it? There will probably be a Rock of Love 2, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

    Jes Rickleff ditched Bret Michaels

by on Oct.05, 2007, under articles

After all of that whining and crying on TV and making it look so freakin’ real, I hear this crap. The winner of the first season of Bret Michaels’ Rock of Love, Jes Rickleff, ditched the rocker for a designer back in the windy city:

REALITY TV-show relationships don’t last long, especially at VH1. In fact, “Rock of Love” star Brett Michaels never even got started with the “girlfriend” he selected last season, Jes Rickleff. Sources tell The Post’s Melissa Jane Kronfeld that Michaels was informed by the pink-haired punk rocker over the phone that she had taken up with a Chicago clothing designer upon returning home to the windy city. VH1 has renewed “Rock of Love” for a second season, but has not announced if Michaels will be its heartthrob.

    What the crap?!?!?!?

Duran Duran has dropped Iraq song from Red Carpet Massacre

by on Oct.04, 2007, under articles

Sellouts!! Fearing that the song was too political and making their new album angry, Duran Duran dropped Criminals in the Capital from their new album.

Now it’s just going to sound like the rest of their music. Overdone.

I’m of the mind that music should reflect the times that we’re living in. Remember “Give peace a chance”?

by on Oct.03, 2007, under articles

In case you weren’t aware, Problogger, Darren Rowse is having a monstrous contest with over $54,000 in prizes. What an amazing list of things that you can win or take part in.

The range of prizes include cash, blog analysis and an ad spot, monitors, DVDs, gift certificates, an iPod Touch, and much more!

Darren has really outdone himself this time. What an amazing contest, in celebration of Problogger’s third birthday.

I’m entering the monitor contest because of the archaic monster of a monitor that I have to look at everyday. It’s an HP Pavilion mx704 and it’s olddddd. In hopes of beautifying my workspace and making blogging a little easier, this is my entry.

The contest is sponsored by DisplayLink and the monitors rock!

Beyonce won’t be shaking it for Malaysia

by on Oct.02, 2007, under articles

In an effort to avoid protests for her appearance, Beyonce has nixed her Malaysia concert. They have strict guidelines that performers have to follow, like not showing skin and running and jumping on stage. They must live such an Amish existence over there:

“It’s also beyond the dressing. She has to change the show. Basically, the ministry wants her to stand in front of the microphone and open her mouth. Just sing and cannot move.”

Ironically, Beyonce will instead perform in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on November 1. Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim country.

Britney Spears lost her kids yesterday & was smiling

by on Oct.02, 2007, under articles

I would think that this would be devastating for a parent to lose custody of their children. The pop princess had to turn over Sean and Jayden to K-Fed’s bodyguards yesterday. She was photographed driving her children around, without a valid California driver’s license.

But, why is she smiling? Perhaps it was her plan all along. Stay in the spotlight, lose the kids, drop a new album, party, party, party.

Piece of Me by Britney Spears

    Lyrics:

I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17
Don’t matter if I step on the scene
Or sneak away to the Philippines
They still got pictures of my derrière in the magazine
You want a piece of me?
You want a piece of me…

    I’m Miss bad media karma
    Another day another drama
Guess I can’t see no harm
In working and being a mama
And with a kid on my arm
    I’m still an exception
And you want a piece of me

I’m Mrs. Lifestyles of the rich and famous
(You want a piece of me)
I’m Mrs. Oh my God that Britney’s Shameless
(You want a piece of me)
I’m Mrs. Exta! Extra! this just in
(You want a piece of me)
I’m Mrs. she’s too big now she’s too thin
(You want a piece of me)

I’m Mrs. ‘You want a piece of me?’
    Tryin’ and pissin’ me off
Well get in line with the paparazzi
    Who’s flippin’ me off
Hopin’ I’ll resort to startin’ havoc
And end up settlin’ in court
Now are you sure you want a piece of me?

I’m Mrs. ‘Most likely to get on TV for strippin’ on the streets’
When getting the groceries, no, for real..
    Are you kidding me?
    Causing panic in the industry
I mean, please, do you want a piece of me?

I’m Mrs. Lifestyles of the rich and famous
(You want a piece of me)
I’m Mrs. Oh my God that Britney’s Shameless
(You want a piece of me)
I’m Mrs. Exta! Extra! this just in
(You want a piece of me)

Amy Winehouse: Blake’s a bigger junkie than I am

by on Oct.01, 2007, under articles

It’s no secret that Amy Winehouse overdosed on drugs in August. We were all hoping for her recovery, and would’ve been right there, bedside, with encouragement, if needed. Well, everyone except for her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

What we didn’t know is that while she was holed up in the hospital, trying to get better, her hubby was out trying to score his next fix. What a great guy!

All of her friends ignored him at her birthday party. Cuz that’ll teach him!

“He was at one side of the room with a few mates, Amy’s pals were on the other. She’s now confronted him and he admitted that after her overdose, he left her, out of it in her hospital bed, to go and take more drugs.

Hopefully she’ll dump him and go back to being healthy.
