James Mcavoy to play Kurt Cobain?

Really? I don’t see it. From my understanding, they are tapping James Mcavoy to play Kurt Cobain in a new movie about his life, executive produced by Courtney Love.

They should really get an unknown or someone that actually looks like Kurt to play him. Courtney is bleeding the Nirvana legacy dry, isn’t she?

    u guys are lamee, i happen to know that this guy is a passionate actor so lets see his preformance before u can judge him. no one can truely capture the personality of kurt, but i think he can do a pretty damn good job with a little cobainmakeover

    James McAvoy is an excellent actor, I’ve seen almost all of his movies. You have to give the guy a chance, who knows maybe he will be a great Kurt Cobain. But no one can actually be Kurt so other actors can only come so close, you all have to keep that in mind.

    James McAvoy is one of the most passionate actors of his age. He is absolutely brilliant in everything I have seen him in. I have no doubt that he would do a great job, however I don’t necessarily think that he is best for the part.
    I think that Joe Anderson, who played Max in Across the Universe could do a very good Kurt. And we know that he can sing.

    Joe Anderson WOULD be perfect. Not only does he kind of look like him, but you know he can sing, as a person above said, he even kind of sounds like Kurt (singing, and normal talk). Max’s character in AtU acted a bit like Kurt (when Kurt was…happier?) I really think that if they are to make a Kurt movie, Joe would be perfect. But I don’t think they should. These movies never get big, so my movie theatres don’t play them, and it’s almost impossible to rent them from any of the crappy local movie rental stores.

    Kala, you couldn’t be more wrong, James McAvoy has made millions from movies in recent years but is incredibly down to earth and lives a modest life in a small flat and drives a small 12 year old car, the idea that he’s just looking for money couldn’t be further from the truth.

    You guys would be surprised…I plan on getting into acting in university and trust me I have seen certain people play roles in my classes that seemed completely out of their league and they nailed it. You can’t say an actor can’t play a role simply because they don’t look like the character or person. You’d be surprised about the wonders that a good make up artist can do! And I wouldn’t judge James’ acting before seeing it, he may not be a well known actor by name but he’s been in many acclaimed movies that you probably don’t even realize he was in. Aside from Atonement (which is his most well known role, he also played Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Thomas in Becoming Jane and a few others). So before you guys write off the actor, why don’t you just check out some of his other works and see what he’s capable of?

    For me, it’s not that he can’t do it. Because he is a grand actor and is flexible. It’s just there’s other actors who you can actually see playing the part.
    But he said this role was rubbish anyway.

    If you want proof that James Mcavoy is a good actor watch him in “Inside I’m dancing” he is an amazing actor and I agree with Nicole and Gabby, give him a chance before you judge him…I’m actually watching him now in the first series of Britains “Shameless” check it out on 4od but he’s only in the first series, he’s such a talented and versatile actor, and he’s really convincing in every role I’ve seen him in.

    I’m not too thrilled about the idea of seeing one of my favourite bands of all time… whored out like that on screen… but, I do think if they decide to make the movie (which they probably are) Joe Anderson from Across the Universe IS the man to play Kurt Cobain. End of story.

    james mcavoy is an amazing actor , atonement was a fantastic film and i think it a great deal of it had to do with the fact that it was james mcavoy playing the part of robbie…. he has this way of demanding attention, last king of scotland and becoming jane…two very different roles and both played excellent….give the guy a chance….part of what makes actors amazing is their ability to take on roles that no one else would see them as….take johnny depp for instance, he has made a career out of playing these characters that no one would even dare to play and that is why johnny depp is johnny depp…you wouldn’t expect james mcavoy to be a great kurt cobain but who knows he might just suprise you.

    james mcavoy wouldn’t necessarily be bad, he’s a good actor with good presence. but i don’t see him as a Kurt as much as i could see others. now that someone mentionned it , joe anderson would be kinda good.

    Look at his face closely. Look at his jaw line and look at his eyes. Fucking hell. Does that pitt fella who played a cobain esque character in Last Days look like him? No. Anyone who hides half their face behind oversized shades and has a wig like cobains hair would look like him.

    Mcavoy is a great actor and even if he is actually doing this (which I doubt) I’m sure he would do a fine job. Makeup and lighting and the right angles are wonderful things. He’d probably play cobain really well… but anyway if you’re fans WHY THE FUCK DO YOU CARE?

    You will never know cobain as he was unless you knew him. Not even if they make this film.

Yes! he was a great in Nirvana, but he was also selfish enough to overdose on Heroin and leave his daughter in the hands of that drugeeeeeeee Courtney Love.     i had no idea that people can be so closeminded about a topic as versatile and fragile as this. appearance is not what makes an actor, its about his flexibility in playing characters you do not normally imagine him doing. its called ACTING. what’s important is ACTING the PART, not LOOKING the part. james may not look like the kurt cobain to you, but his talent gives him the ability to actually even try to portray someone like kurt cobain. don’t go on saying that he does look like kurt so he shouldn’t play him. don’t be so stupid as to say that. james has the talent to portray whoever he needs to with ease, as long as he does get into the groove of it. besides, he doesn’t have to LOOK like cobain. he needs to accurately portray cobain in a way that people don’t generally see him as. they just think that he’s a rockstar and about the controversy of his death. they don’t come to thinking that he may have personal problems of his own and has a different life that just that. i do think though that in lieu of this being a touchy and delicate subject to most, it shouldn’t be portrayed at all. cobain has lived a fulfilled life and he did go awry for some time, but that’s him. nobody can remake that. let the guy have his peace.

Ewan McGregor would be the way to go I mean he might be a bit older but he looks like Kurt He moves like Kurt and he’s almost close enough to voice the great Kurt Cobain despite age I think Ewan would be the way to go.. but i doubt if Courtney would ever let that happen!!!

    At first I was interested to see that some one was doing something on Kurt Cobain, just to see if they’d do it right, with the right ending of how he was murdered.     Joe Anderson would be great for this role. Yes, as others have said, he has a nice singing voice, and he does look a lot like him. Also, he is a very good actor. Now, what puts him most over James McAvoy for me is that seeing from his experience in Becoming Jane, he can be a serious actor, but in Across the Universe, he shows a wild side that we all know Cobain had. I don’t really believe that McAvoy could uphold such a wild character, judging from his past films.
