The Search For The Next American Band

Via Variety, it appears that American Idol producers are looking around for musical groups:

The producers of “American Idol” are singing a new tune, pacting with Fox for what’s tentatively being called “The Search for the Next American Band.”

Skein will mirror the “Idol” format, starting with an audition phase in which producers will look for musical groups of all ages and genres.

Judges will then narrow the wanna-bes down to 10 semifinalists, each of which will get to perform in front of a live audience. Viewers will determine who moves on to the next round, with three bands facing off in the finale.

This is a battle of the bands-meets-reality television type of thing. I’d watch it, if they were to separate the bands into genres. Not like American Idol where you have good singers belting out bad songs. Go with what you know!
