Simon Cowell speaks bluntly about Idol failures

by on January 10, 2008 | 2 Comments

Simon Cowell is blaming the failures of former Idols Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, and Katharine McPhee on the unpredictability of the music industry.

Simon insists that even though they get signed to a major label, the artists can’t get too comfortable. He says it’s what you get when you win or become a finalist in a reality show. And it has a realistic ending, as well.

For some, their debut efforts tank (think Taylor Hicks) and for others, like Daughtry, they’re careers skyrocketed after American Idol.

Cowell says both Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis failed to score number one hits and he adds that he’s disappointed that they didn’t sell more copies or catch on fire. He said that they are competing with the Mariahs.

Taylor failed to knock a first hit out of the ballpark, because AI didn’t want him to succeed. They never launched him a video and never did anything to further his career except some interviews on some talk shows. Now that Taylor is in control, he will succeed. American Idol has admitted that Taylor had no artistic input into this album. If they would have launched Hell of a Day as his first single, it would have been a hit.
The songs the producers picked were not his best. But he tried to make it work. He is in control and it is being worked the way it should be, release the single, about 3 weeks later the video, and then about 3 weeks later the album. Taylor has gone to great length to keep it under wraps. It is in the works to bring Taylor back to AI sometime this season, I would say Hell, no. The only way I would do it, is if I could put a poster board of Simon’s face with bubble gum all over it and see who the mystery guest is behind it is? Simon has treated Taylor like dirt, and he turned Chris down too, but he takes credit for that. He thought Jennifer Hudson couldn’t cut it either. Boy does he have mud on his face? He really does need to get a wardrobe, someone who claims to know it all should surely be a better dresser, along with his money. If I was Taylor I wouldn’t perform, unless Simon was out of the room or I got to put gum on his face. He is an arrogant jerk.
