Simon Cowell speaks bluntly about Idol failures
by Roberta Ferguson on January 10, 2008 | 2 Comments

Simon Cowell is blaming the failures of former Idols Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, and Katharine McPhee on the unpredictability of the music industry.
Simon insists that even though they get signed to a major label, the artists can’t get too comfortable. He says it’s what you get when you win or become a finalist in a reality show. And it has a realistic ending, as well.
For some, their debut efforts tank (think Taylor Hicks) and for others, like Daughtry, they’re careers skyrocketed after American Idol.
Cowell says both Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis failed to score number one hits and he adds that he’s disappointed that they didn’t sell more copies or catch on fire. He said that they are competing with the Mariahs.
