Adam Lambert talks about the Westboro Baptist Church
Adam Lambert recently gave an interview to The Chapparal about the Westboro Baptist Church protesting his performance at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
He quoted their slogan, “God hates fags” and said that he feels that God hates hate more. Good point, Adam! So true. He went on to say that there is a better way to spend their energy, “probably doing good would be better.”

The Chaparral: What do you do about… the hate, which I don’t want to bring up, but…
Adam Lambert: Oh yeah, yeah. I’ve been hearing about that. Yeah, there were some protestors in San Jose. I guess the Westboro Baptist Church is planning on picketing a bunch of the concerts because of American Idol’s “fag infestation.” Well, I guess they like to put on their signs, “God Hates Fags,” but I think God hates hate more.
TC: Amen. [high fives]
AL: I kind of think there’s probably a better way of spending their energy. Probably doing some good would be better, promoting positive causes, helping the homeless…TC: Hugging someone.
AL: Yeah. Spreading some love, I think, would probably be more beneficial than hate, you know? But I ignore it. I say everyone’s entitled to their opinion!TC: A change is gonna come.
AL: [laughs] I agree, I agree.TC: Pet peeves?
AL: That kind of crap. That’s a pet peeve. No, in a related thing to that, it’s been interesting—because I’m Jewish. [laughs] And clearly gay. And I get a lot fan mail and gifts that are trying to express Christian ideals and Bible scriptures. It’s awkward because that’s not my belief system. I respect people for the intention in which they’re giving these gifts, because I know it’s out love and hope, but it doesn’t match my belief system at all, so I kind of wish there’d be a little bit more respect for that.TC: The way I see it: music and spirituality, they can be intertwined, but when they start to contradict each other or people start to lose the meaning behind the music…
AL: Yeah! I mean, my music is just for entertainment value, I’m not trying to preach to anybody, I’m not trying to spread any agenda, I’m just trying to get people up and dancing and feeling good. There’s nothing controversial about that.TC: It’s just fun.
AL: Yeah, it’s fun. It’s fun and it’s sexy. And if sexy scares you, don’t listen to my music.

Adam is always so well spoken in his comments about negativism that people throw out or at him. I really think he is a great role model and handles himself with such poise and grace. Adam has enormous talent, but he is also a really lovely man. People need to get over it and move on. This kind of prejudice has to go away. Why would god create humans and creatures differently if he wanted everyone to be the same.

Amen forever at this. Everything he says is so true, so respectful, so sincere, and so full of love. I love him for not getting bitter or rude about this when he would have evry right to be affected. Stay strong adam, we love you for your singing, performances, and music. These people are just ignorant and deserve pity if anything.

I just adore him… he’s so articulate in all of his interviews, he really knows how to express himself. I hope no one asks him about these idiotic people again, though, b/c it just gives them the attention they crave.

What a class act that man is…. God is smiling.

Adam’ is very articulate and intelligent and understanding. I am fairly knowledgable about quantum physics, basically all atoms at particle/wave subatomic level is all probalility and we and everything else in the universe are all made of this one thing and atoms are conscious- it really proves Oneness and supports my Buddhist religiion of a God of love, no hell, no devil, and all are ‘Sons of God’(Buddahs) Yet, Christians who believe in a god that creates them to live 100 years, then puts them in hell for eternity for a wrongdoing yet asks for love and forgiveness from them -they often tell me they will pray for me to be ’saved’ since Jesus to me was a great Jewish Rabbi and enlightened’Buddah’ master and not the ‘only Son of God’ Well, Adam is far more patient then I have often been, so I just learned from him.

Wow, I know that there is no such thing as perfection, but God has come pretty damn close with Adam Lambert! His maturity, talent, and sex appeal make him an unbelievably HOT guy! I wish more men had his confidence and grace. Adam, you just keep doing what you’re doing, and we’ll keep wanting more!
Comment by Mona — July 20, 2009 @ 8:26 pm
I am always astounded by the arrogance of religious zealots who claim to know what GOD thinks. I cannot imagine God hating anyone he created and, in Adam’s case, bestowed so much. KUDOS to ADAM!!! God, I am sure Hates, Hate MORE!
Comment by Lori — July 20, 2009 @ 8:32 pm
Adam, you always make me feel proud by the way you handle the media. You stay focused and happy no matter what negative nonsense comes your way. We, your fans, want to protect you like a real family member. You know who you are and we love you for that. Your music is exciting and makes us SO HAPPY! Thank you Adam. You have our support 100%.

Comment by Myla — July 20, 2009 @ 9:11 pm
To quote Chris from Vigan, Philippines – “So wrong. God never hates anybody! In fact, He blessed Adam with so much talent it must really be love!”
Comment by Ally — July 20, 2009 @ 9:26 pm
I wish people would just let Adam be Adam. Nothing more, nothing less. Works for me! Love ya Adam!!
Comment by Laura in Denver — July 20, 2009 @ 9:47 pm
The more I hear this wonderful man speak, the more I love him! You tell them, Adam – what you are doing, spreading love and happiness, is far more aligned with God’s work than the hypocritical preaching of the haters! And – your sexy music DOESN’T scare me – I revel in it!
Comment by Eowyn Rohan — July 20, 2009 @ 10:10 pm
Using profanity in the name of the Lord? Really?
I plan on bringing a big ol’ can of bulls**t repellent just in case those hypocrites show up in Philly!
Adam is one of the most beautiful, sweetest and kindest human beings I have ever met. My heart aches that such hatred is directed towards him.
Adam is God’s gift to us. Don’t take him for granted people!

Comment by s — July 20, 2009 @ 11:34 pm
To me, my intuition is my connection to God and my angels and to me God is androgynous and not some human looking man out there somewhere. My parents raised me believing in God and not religion and I have learned some christians think everyone else needs saved and I am certainly glad their beliefs only affect them. Adam is admirable. Adam is loving and understanding and tolerant and very honest and brave and his singing is very good vibrations.
Comment by madelyn — July 20, 2009 @ 11:57 pm
Can’t say enough good stuff about Adam. Talented, bright, amazing — in stark contrast to the loser protestors.

It should be paying taxes, a ‘church’ that dosent’t preach love for fellow humans is not a church of God.
Comment by Miriam — July 21, 2009 @ 8:29 am
Well, like it or not, if you read researched and verified books : The gods of eden,’ and ‘the chariots of the gods ‘and esp read ’sons of god, daughters of man’-you will see that the ‘god’ people believed in over 2 thousand years ago was and ET. or-just read Ezekial in your own bible and think for yourself. the real God is the same ’sacred Presence ‘in each and every one of us. Read The dancing wu li masters and the power of now and EXPERIENCE the truth. spirituality and religion are not the same and that baptist church is backward, holding people back, and it is therefore evil. IMHO but they have their choice.
Comment by Jason — July 21, 2009 @ 8:43 am

I have recently come out of the “dark ages” and heard of Adam Lambert through a grand niece of mine. I decided to do a little research on him and came across this page. I think it is very, very wrong and anti-Biblical of Westboro Baptist Church to say “God hates fags”. I googled their name and went to their website in order to find out FROM them FIRST HAND whether this is what their picket signs in fact were proclaiming. What I found was a lot more than I expected. They are so far from what the Bible teaches that I would be ashamed to admit I was a church. What they preach is NOT Christianity!!! They are a cult in the guise of representing truth but are FAR from it. God does NOT hate homosexuals, or anyone else for that matter. He does not send anyone to Hell. They go there because of their sinful deeds and He calls homosexuality a sin in Romans 1. But He loves EVERYONE so much that that He died for each individual and has given everyone equal opportunity to repent of their sin (of which there is no degree in His eyes). Because of our sinful nature (“all have sinned”) we must accept the provision of sacrifice of His Son which, when we do, cleanses us from all our sin (1 John 1:9). He cannot permit sin in Heaven.

AMEN to Emory’s reply!
Comment by B Pug — July 21, 2009 @ 5:26 pm
I agree with everything Adam said, he makes a lot more sense than the people protesting. I am sure he knows for the few people that come out and protest, there are ten fold that come out to support Adam Lambert and show support. Sexy, talented and smart.. whew… triple threat. I’m sure anyone going to see an Adam Lambert concert will get entertainment and a whole lot more.
Comment by Undeniable — July 21, 2009 @ 6:31 pm
Adam, you are an angel, I don’t care what the church says, you have a universe amount of fans behind who support you 100 % therefore, Churches should focus more on their priests and stop molestation rather than atacking an innocent human being who’s nothing more than a pure Angel.
Comment by Sabrina — July 21, 2009 @ 8:42 pm
The Westboro Baptist sect doesn’t deserve to be called a church. God cannot possibly consider these people to be followers. God is just way more cool. On the other hand it’s disappointing when Christians (and that includes myself) don’t publicly confront these haters wherever they gather. I live near HP Pavilion and this is not the first time WBr’s have pulled this sort of mean nonsense. Next time I’ll try to be there to baptise them with some REAL Christianity (yeh, I’m thinking large quantities of water).
Comment by dianeg — July 21, 2009 @ 11:10 pm
If people belong to a church that preaches hate toward other people for any reason whatsoever, then it is a church that honors darkness not light and enlightenment.
Comment by Shirley — July 22, 2009 @ 1:59 am
How can anyone believe in a ‘god’ that asks us to forgive but who sends people to ‘hell;? If I lived a couple thousand years ago, and I ‘heard a burning bush say I am God and sacrifice your son to me -I’D ask for some ID!!!but then, millions of jewish men women and children were put in ovens by christians -yep-the nazi were christians people, so unless someone gains knowledge -he is not only his own worst enemy-but ours also. There are 2 kinds of people in every ‘religion’-good & wise, and evil & stupid. Kind or cruel. Tolerant or bigoted. Serving love or serving hate.”By their fruits,ye shall know them”
