Joe Jonas ‘ruthless’ on ‘American Idol’?
by Roberta Ferguson on Jan.27, 2010, under articles
Joe Jonas had a great time during his stint as a guest judge on “American Idol”, but only after getting over his nerves and becoming more candid about their performances.
He said, “I was a little nervous at the start because I was kind of afraid I was going to hurt people’s feelings. You have to really be honest. At first, you feel bad, because you see these people come through, and they just want it really bad. The first few, I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, you’re great.’ Towards like five in, you have to be like, ‘I’m sorry, no. This isn’t for you.’”
He went on to reveal that he saw a lot of talent at the Dallas auditions, even though some of the singers seemed more suited to a certain style. He said that there might have been a diamond in the rough there.
He added, “There were a couple of people that walked through the audition room whose voices were just so different. I’d never heard anything like it. And I was like, ‘Yeah, this guy could totally win it. I would be really proud if somebody from Texas wins.”
The episode he appears in airs tonight!
Brittany Murphy’s husband suing over ‘Happy Feet’
by Roberta Ferguson on Jan.27, 2010, under articles
Brittany Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, is claiming that Warner Brothers is the responsible party in the actress’ death.
He says that he plans to file a wrongful death suit against the company over her termination.
Murphy was said to have been devastated after losing a role in the sequel to “Happy Feet” which he believes caused her to have a heart attack.
And even before the “Happy Feet” nonsense, she was also fired from “The Caller” due to reports about her erratic behavior on set.
Monjack said, “Warner Brothers relied on conjecture and hearsay about the Puerto Rico film [The Caller] for why they canceled Brittany’s role in ‘Happy Feet’.”

Friends denounced that statement, saying that she was on her way to recovery.
She passed away earlier today at Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles.

Pete Doherty fined over pocketed heroin in court
by Roberta Ferguson on Jan.27, 2010, under articles
Pete Doherty is not the sharpest tool in the shed. The former Babyshambles singer was fined earlier today for walking into a courtroom last month with some heroin in his pocket.
Maybe this was a cry for help? Or probably just hapless stupidity.
He appeared in the Gloucester Magistrates’ Court in England earlier today for a careless driving charged, but got escorted out of the building when authorities saw heroin fall from his pocket.
Judge Joti Boparai said, “Either this was sheer stupidity or a ploy to get more publicity.”
He was fined $1,200 in costs. The Judge in the case felt it wasn’t worth sending him to rehab because he’s already paying for drug treatment privately.
Well, no one accused him of being smart!

Photo: Mariah Carey covers ‘Observer Woman Magazine’
by Roberta Ferguson on Jan.27, 2010, under articles
Mariah Carey is on the cover of “Observer Woman Magazine” and she talked about everything from her role as a Social Worker in “Precious”, her family and her racial identity.
On her role in Precious:
blockquote> “I spent as much time as I could getting into it,” Carey says. “She is supposed to be exhausted, so it didn’t matter that I stayed up… I really did the best I could to morph into this woman who goes into this office every day and deals with people needing something from her, trying to get things from her, maybe being disingenuous.”
On her insecurity:
“I am very insecure about my looks, and I always have been because of being mixed race [Carey's mother is Irish-American and her father was an African-American of Venezuelan descent]. It’s not so weird now, and everyone’s accepting it in a big way, but as a child I felt very, um, out of place and didn’t feel pretty. So taking on that character and having Lee make me older in the way he did, I guess it was freeing because I didn’t have to try in any way to look pretty, and you know, when you grow up with that type of insecurity you don’t always feel pretty.”
On her family:
“I don’t want to go into my family stuff, but there were very difficult things that took place. I think certain people like to torture me because they think I’ve had it easier than I actually have and they think: ‘Oh, she’s got this, she’s got that, she’s always had everything perfect’ and it’s sooo not true. You know, I really relate to this movie in a lot of ways.”
On her racial identity:
“Usually the black community knew that I was black, but white people didn’t always – they hadn’t always experienced being around people who were half-black, half-white and who looked more white. My mum’s very, very Irish and my father was light-skinned, so I turned out the way I turned out.”
On whether she still experiences racism:
“Yes. It’ll be a mild thing that I’ll get over, but a friend said to me the other day: ‘Oh yeah, you’ll like her –she’s like you, she’s got a black husband’ [Carey married the 28-year-old actor Nick Cannon last year]. And I’m like: ‘How many times do I have to tell you – my father was black. My mother’s white. In this country that makes you black, do you understand? I know I’m very light-skinned, but stop doing that!’ It’s one of those things that the world doesn’t quite understand. When I first came to Europe, everybody was asking me: ‘Why do you always have black people in your music videos?’ And I was like, errm, how do I answer this one?”

by Roberta Ferguson on Jan.27, 2010, under articles
Despite the rumors that there is tension between Avril Lavigne and soon-to-be ex-husband Deryck Whibley, causing a delay in her album’s release, she says it’s quite the opposite.
Her new album, “Pink Crust” was already pushed back once and is likely to be released in the summer. It was rumored that because Whibley was producing the album, he was causing some tension with its release.
She said, “We still work together all the time. He’s one of my best friends. We’ve been friends for a really long time, and we always will be. We’re family and we have a connection. We work really well together.”
Then why the delays?
