Jason Bateman cuts iPhone line, apologizes

by on June 30, 2010 | 6 Comments

Jason Bateman was given special treatment as he waited in line for the new iPhone 4. An Apple store employee discovered that he had a celebrity in their midst and promptly escorted him right into the store.

There were 2,000 people waiting in line for the new phone, but he got jumped ahead of all of them. The crowd hissed and booed, something he denies, but now, he’s apologizing for being a line cutter.

He tweeted, “Correction- If there were boos, I didn’t hear them. If some were mad, I didn’t see them. I wish I had. If you’re out there, I’m sorry.”

In his defense, he didn’t ask to be taken into the store ahead of everyone else. And if it were you, tell me you wouldn’t have done the same?

No, I wouldn't, but I see so many people that if given the chance they would jump to the front too. That's not fair to your fellow human beings and I would NOT do it. A friend of mine flew a lot and once in a long airport line with Martin Sheen. The airline spotted him and told him he could go the the front of the line and you know what he said? "No thank you. I'll wait like everybody else." THAT'S class!

No. I would not accept the offer to go into the store well ahead of others. Why? It's inconsiderate and certainly foolish when one lives in the fishbowl called celebrity. The photos show him comfortably waiting in line like everyone else. Too much attention is paid to celebrities. They put their pants on one leg at a time as well do. I think the only person I would mind going to the head of the line would be the Dalai Lama. But then, I'm not sure he has an Iphone but I think I could be certain in that he would graciously thank the Apple employee and politely decline his offer.

W-H-Y would 2000 people stand in line JUST to purchase a phone?

    • Susan

      I agree…they need to get a life!

I think anyone that would stand in line to have a phone as soon as it comes out is a dummy anyway and probably didn't realize someone was breaking in front of them.

He ( Bateman) was offer a benefit because of who he was, not unlike: police getting free coffee or food, the pretty girl getting out of a ticket, the friend who gets a discount or anyone of a thousand other "benefits" we all may enjoy from time to time in our lives. It is not like he was given the last phone available or that he was given something no one else was eventually given…he just got moved up in line. WHO CARES! So instead of being the first person at this store to get the phone, you were the second or third etc….
I do not fault Mr. Bateman for accepting this "benny", nor would I think him a great person if he had said "no thanks". It is what it is! If a person has enough time to sit in line to buy a telephone, they probably have enough time to wait an additional minute so he can get his telephone.
