Kristen Stewart hates the Hollywood double standard

by on August 01, 2010 | 3 Comments

Kristen Stewart says that there’s a double standard in Hollywood, as a public figure, she doesn’t feel that she can be a strong woman. She says that if a man were to behave the same way she does (ie: flipping off the paparazzi), it would be viewed as alright, but because she’s a woman, she gets looked down upon.

She said, “Being a public figure, I’m supposed to present myself in a certain way, but it’s hard and you’re never going to be able to tell people who you are properly. It’s sort of impossible. It’s much easier for a guy to say what he wants and not to be cute and funny all the time, but, if you’re a strong sort of woman, you’re just, for lack of a better word, a bitch. But I’ve been really lucky for a long time, and I’ve worked with amazing people, and I just hope that that continues. I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have this.”

What do you think? Double standard?

I agree with Kristen! It’s not just Hollywood that has the double standard you just have every move you make judged! It’s wrong! I’m a grown woman with teenage kids and like what Kristen Stewart represents. I want my daughter to speak her mind when she feels the need. If I had to deal with the poparazzi following my every move I would flip them off as well! Grown women or not! Freadom of Speach!!
I like what Kristen represents and I have no problem with my 15 year old daughter seeing Kristen stand up for her self and stay true to who she is!
I wouldn’t change a thing Kristen. If I ever saw the Pops following you I would block the road with my denali suv so you could get away! It’s time that some new laws should be passed. They go way too far.
Keep up the good work! You are an amazing actress and role model! I just saw you in Speak. I loved it and can’t wait for my daughter to see it. Good work!

You damn right there is a double standard. I love Rob but he has said somethings very close to what Kristen says without getting in half the trouble. I am not saying that he does not get in trouble but she just get caught for every little word. Just recently, she talked of feeling pressure in making sure she portrays Bella correctly which the media presents as her bitching again. I have heard Rob & Taylor say that very thing about their roles a million times.

Totally agree with Kristen! She has a strong personality and stands up for what she believes in. I'm also a grown woman who admires this young woman for trying so hard to keep it real with all the pressure she is under. She is put under a microscope and judged for every word that comes out of her mouth, every single expression ( or lack of ) that crosses her face, every nuance of her body language. It's ridiculous. The paparazzi are so out of control, I don't even understand why they are aloud to physically hound and pursue these people the way they do. It's beyond invading their privacy, it's inhumane. Not to mention incredibly unsafe and dangerous. I would be flipping them off every chance I got. I would feel VIOLATED.
