Report: Peter Steele of Type O Negative, dead

According to Mistress Juliya on Twitter, Peter Steele, frontman for Type O Negative, has passed away.

She said, “Today is a very sad day in metal…End of an era. Peter Steele passed today. I loved my friend…our idol…my heart is with his band and family… @msjenncity he passed of heart failure today. Just spoke to Kenny.”

His Wikipedia has been updated to reflect his passing on April 14, 2010. We hope this is not true. We’ll keep our ear to the ground for any updates. (Update: It has since been updated to show no death date)

RIP Pete.

Update: FullMetalJackie is saying that the news has been confirmed. RIP.

Update: Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard has updated his Facebook with this message:

R.I.P my friend, brother, and mentor, Peter Steele, Type-O-Negative, Carnivore….my single biggest musical influence… who named Biohazard

    It is disturbing that a man with such a good heart, in spirit, had an illness in his heart in the physical world. I worry about this coming down on myself and others. I to have heart problems. I have a bundle bunch block. That means the blood pours into my heart from one side and is closed off on the other side. I fear dying, and I know what it feels like to have mother nature gunning for me. Petter deserved a more dignified passing. The man is a legend, and he was a talent that kept me guessing for years if he was even acting or was truely vampiric. He was just that good at what he did, and I reveled in the music he and his band made. I hope that all of his familty and friends in the world find peace and solace in the wake of his far to early departure..

    wow really. I didn't now he had a heart condition. that's sad. to die so young. I know a lot of people who are sad over this. I saw him in concert a long time ago and it was an awesome show. r.i.p. Peter Steele!
