Rihanna’s boyfriend explains himself

by on January 22, 2010 | 2 Comments

If you were like me, when you read that Rihanna story about how she is hooking up with another abusive guy, then you were concerned for her. I like her and I love her music and thus, I don’t want to see another incident like the one she suffered at the hands of Chris Brown. (Yes, I’m going to continue to write about it, it happened, regardless. Suck it haters.)

Now that she’s dating Matt Kemp, we’ve had to check on him. Of course we all want to see her happy, that’s not even of question. After finding out about his past, we weren’t very pleased at her pattern of choices. His ex-girlfriend’s rep has come forth to defend Kemp, letting us know that he’s not a bad guy after all.

E! News has more:

A rep for Terrell, who once lived with Kemp, tells us: “During the course of the relationship there was a restraining order filed by Felisha but it had nothing to do with domestic violence and to be clear Matt was NEVER physically abusive to Felisha, nor did she fear for her life. The restraining order was subsequently vacated. They both have moved on separately but remain amicable.”

And there you have it!

You need to read the court documents for yourself and not just go on a PR statement. It is easy to make a comment two years after the fact but the court records are still public record and reveal the then- current state of affairs with them. Time heals old wounds. Madonna and her new boy toy briefly met up with Sean Penn in New York at a restaurant recently, however when they were married Sean Penn used to bound Madonna by a chair and had even hit her with a bat.

Even though she says Matt Kemp did not lay a hand on her, she still cited he was going to destroy items in the house she purchased and he was stalking her. It is not good for a recent victim of domestic violence to date a man with a previous restraining order related to destructive and controlling behaviors. Mind you Rihanna refuses to get therapy, because in her words Bajans don’t do that. I have worked with victims of DV and there is a high recidivism rate of women who don’t receive treatment for their emotional trauma. They will meet different partners but everyone of them have the same abusive behaviors. I know Rihanna says she likes “high risk” men but she needs to avoid those men actually.

You are correct, Matt did not lay a hand on her. This is a good thing. I’m happy for her if she’s happy. I just don’t want to see her making the same mistakes twice.

Aside from my opinion on Chris Brown after he beat Rihanna, I really don’t have an opinion of him. My 10-year-old loves his music, though. In his words, “He sucks, but he makes good music.”
