The Sound of Lô Borges…..

….is quite unique, and somehow sounds perfectly fresh today even though this track was recorded over 20 years ago in Brazil. This music somehow makes completely unexpected chord changes sound perfectly natural, and wraps them up with clattering percussion and skillful bass undertones that walk with the melody of the vocals.
If at first you don’t get it, listen to this song again and it’s genius will start to sink in, especially when the bridge comes in which features Lô’s sister Solange Borges on vocals. Her voice is the perfect blend of skill and character that has a real approachable and almost familiar sound to it.
The sound of Lô Borges is very distinct to the part of Brazil where he comes from, Minas Gerais, which also happens to have been the home of his longtime friend Milton Nascimento. The two made the classic album “Clube da Esquina” along with a bunch of other great musicians from that time and place such as Beto Guedes and Wagner Tiso. This music can appeal to music majors and indie rockers alike because of it’s tasteful mastery.
Two essential albums are his self titled first release, “Lô Borges” as well as “A Via Latia”
The song Vento de Maio (May Wind) was also performed by the great and legendary Elis Regina.
