Melanie Amaro's 'I Have Nothing' X Factor Performance Video

On last night’s two-and-a-half hour episode of The X Factor, saved at the last minute singer Melanie Amaro belted out Whitney Houston’s famous song, I Have Nothing.

I’ve got a bone to pick with anyone who really tries to sing anything Whitney. I grew up with Whitney Houston songs, she’s a legend. Her range is spectacular. No one should ever really try to cover Whitney. Heck, even Whitney can’t cover her own songs anymore. I Have Nothing is a big song.

Check out Melanie’s cover:

Now if this were American Idol and Simon Cowell was back to his original Mr. Nasty self, he would have definitely called this performance “pitchy”. Now I’m not saying that she didn’t do a good job, but really no one should venture to cover Whitney.

What did you think of her performance? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think!

Ok, could someone tell me why nobody, I repeat nobody should cover Whitney Houston songs!?  If she was so great where the hell is she now!?  I mean c’mon!?  Melanie Amaro’s signing gave me chills.  Sure, I’ll admit that one time one of Whitney’s songs gave me chills too.  But considering there is an apparent rule out there that nobody should cover Whitney’s songs then why did Melanie give me the same chills Whitney gave!?  Whitney is not the greatest artist out there.  If she was, she would still be selling millions of new albums.  The fact of the matter is, she isn’t.  So enough with the BS that nobody should ever attempt to cover her songs.  That princess, diva, whatever you may want to call her is history and someone new needs to replace her in the eyes of her poor sap fans who beg for a new album release.  If Melanie continues on the path she has chosen she may be that one person to replace Whitney.  Sorry if this offends those poor Whitney fans who believe that Whitney is the best thing since sliced bread.  Wake up and get your heads out of your butts.

what r u saying?do u think that we can only be at the top?it is mpossible man.Whitney houston did her time like everybody will and thats it.And you have to admit that at her time(and thats what make Whitney houston famous),she was untouchable.thats a fact no matter what people say that she cant sing anymore.she cant sing eternally the same way that she used to do.”You cant do better when you are already the best”,thats for Whitney.Melanie Amagro is a very good singer and i hope she will go far in this competition.

yeah, this Melanie girl has a great voice, but she essentially did a karaoke version of Whitney’s song. she didn’t make it her own, and so we can only compare it to the original. well, when Whitney recorded that song, she was literally the biggest female singer on the planet. and considered by most to be the best vocalist of her generation. so that’s a pretty big comparison to live up to. that’s why people say, “don’t sing Whitney”.  because the truth, is that IF you try and sing it the same way, you are simply NOT going to do it better than she did.

also – nobody can stay AT THE TOP for their entire career.  the Rolling Stones are considered the best band of all time (along with The Beatles, etc).  most of their big hits are about forty years old.  haha.  does that make them any less amazing?  no. they’re iconic, just like Whitney. and, just so you know, Theoneandonly29, Whitney’s last album, “i look to you”, which didn’t even really spawn a radio hit, HAS in fact sold “millions of albums”.  more than Beyonce’s most recent album, or Kelly Clarkson’s, or Rihanna’s (3 of the most relevant and current artists of today).  so … yeah.

I have to admit that I was so happily surprised to hear her sing. I had visions of Whitney. As if I was transported back 20 years. She is a talent to be had for the future. Her star is on the way up. Her first live performance. WOOOOOOO what a way to go. God Bless you Melanie and keep your head up. This yours to lose. My family and I will be pulling for you. And if you do not make it some one is going to pick you up and sign you any way. We need your talent we need your voice and most of all we need you.

    Wishing you the best!!!!!!!
