2012 American Idol Season 11 Winner Crowned: Phillip Phillips

After much pomp and circumstance, Ryan Seacrest announced that after 132 million votes, Leesburg, Georgia native Phillip Phillips has just been crowned season eleven’s winner of “American Idol”. Are you shocked? Surprised? Did you think Jessica Sanchez was going to win the “Idol” crown? If you’ve missed the play-by-play recap of tonight’s grand finale, we’ve recapped it in full detail at this link.

It was the showdown of all showdowns, with Jessica being the judges’ favorite and Phillip being the fan favorite. On last night’s performance finale, Phillip performed “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” by Billy Joel and his final song, “Home”. The judges gave two out of the three rounds in the competition to Jessica, leaving Phillip the winner of round three with his coronation song.

Earlier in tonight’s show, Phillip performed a Creedence Clearwater Revival medley of “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and “Bad Moon Rising” with John Fogerty. Betting companies all over the world had Phillip as the favorite to win, so it was no surprise that he was able to walk away as the show’s victor. We were rooting for Phillip to win all season since seeing him audition his rendition of Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller”. We always knew he would be a winner.

Now that it’s time for Phillip to take the next step in his career, we’re likely to hear an album from him soon after he has his surgery. Will you buy it? Or were you shocked that Jessica didn’t win the competition in its entirety? Sound off with your thoughts on the newly crowned winner of “American Idol” below!
