Did Madonna Lip-Sync During Super Bowl Half-Time Show?

Madonna kicked so much butt last night at her Super Bowl half-time performance. She sang a lot of her old hits and even mixed in her newest song, Give Me All Your Luvin’. In case you’ve missed it, you can watch the full video here.

The show was made that much better with the additions of Cee Lo Green, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Well maybe not M.I.A., considering she’s got everyone’s panties in a bunch over her middle finger incident. But still, you can’t deny the fact that Madonna proved that she’s still worth whatever fans are shelling out for her shows. Her performance was grandiose, well executed and went on without a hitch. (Except for an almost stumble, but you try to walk on some bleachers in those boots.)

Elton John previously said on Good Morning America that Madonna would likely not be singing live, telling her to “lip sync good”. Still, even though she may have been lip-syncing, she still rocked the show. We would invite you to try and do better, at her age.

Do you care if she was lip-syncing during her performance? Or were you just sitting back and enjoying the show?

    i was pretty much just sitting back and enjoying the show, she rocked da house!!!!!:D i didnt really get my panties in a bunch either about MIA flipping off the camera, because i didnt notice it really. my cousin was the 1 who actually noticed her finger. even if she was did lip sync, she did well at it, lol. me and my family really enjoyed it… even if LMFAO im sure were the real lip syncers ;)

    You know what?  Phuk, Elton John.  I remember a snarky remark from him
    about a year ago, about 2 years ago, another about  3 and 4 years, about
    6 or 7
    years ago.  Saying snarky things about American Idol and so on.  What a
    shrived up, egotistical fool he is… as if to say, “Hey everyone look
    at me, I wouldn’t do that, I’m better than Madonna”.  Someone truly
    better doesn’t need to do all that ego tripping.  His big hits I was so
    amazed with were like 30 years ago.  His newer stuff is dull, dull,
    dull.   But Madonna’s isn’t.  And could Elton hop around on stage doing a
    big show like that?  Fact is he probably couldn’t climb the effing
    stairs without
    getting winded for fear of a heart attack.  I’d take Madonna over Elton
    ANY DAY OF THE WEEK because you are only as good as what you can CURRENTLY deliver.  Otherwise it’s the golden oldies which can be fun, but again it’s relying on the past.  It’s also obvious from many other articles, episodes etc, that Madonna is a very good singer, and can sing just fine.  So Elton needs to stuff it.

        @Luke, Your counting your individual, speculative interpretation.  As someone who’s studied music for over 25 years, and reading current reactions etc, I’m going by the general consensus which is that her song is catchy.    Elton’s latest sounds and feels just like the cover with the too old people sitting around in nursing home-like chairs.   The days of peppy crocka-dial-rock, island girl, bennie and the jets etc are long gone as the latest work lacks not only pep, but anything to distinguish it from any other average song.  Back in the 70′s he was like a god as his different sound stood out from the crowd.  Today he needs a midol to ease his cramps.   That said, with none of my other points refuted, I say crabby old Elton needs to stuff it.

      You think that Madonna isn’t the “Golden Oldies”?  She can’t even sing anymore, obviously.  Thus the LIP SYNC.  Fake is phuking Fake.  And she is Phake!  I’d rather see John Fogerty out there gruffing it out in real life, than a fake, pre-recorded performance.  Madonna should go back to England and continue with her fake british accent.  Who gives a sh** about fake performers?

    umm my friend was AT the superbowl, and they announced to the audience, “THE ARTISTS PERFORMING TONIGHT HAVE OPTED TO PRE-RECORD THEIR PERFORMANCES.” I mean, i don’t see how there’s much of a dispute. Madonna can’t sing live.

    It doesn’t bother me because the show was fantastic.  If she was just dancing around like the stones then singing would have been an option… but Madonna has very strict choreography that will make the voice shake and make the experience subpar.  If you see her in concert there is plenty of real singing.

    She was lip syncing.  She’s a pig and a whore, and she’s had 11 abortions!!!! Hey once is a mistake; after that either use birth control or keep your ugly legs closed you slut!!!

      Is that really true about the abortions?  I never heard that.  I think a lot of money was put into her show but if she didn’t sing live it is cheating!  Always has been.

    Dipptydoo – That’s one of the many terrible rumors.  When that rumor was started, it was said that she had an (one) abortion 11 years ago but even that was substantiated.  What is substantiated is she’s the most successful female recording artist ever.  She gives a whopper of a live show at her concerts.  She was actually nervous about the halftime performance & lip synched the beginning.  Madonna sang the HELL out of Like A Prayer though!

    Lip-syncing is depriving the audience of an actual live show.

    Madonna should be embarrassed, as should any “performer” who doesn’t really perform.

    “We would invite you to do better….” is a chump argument. 99.5 percent of us aren’t professional musicians or entertainers. That’s like saying you can’t complain about a plumbing job because “we invite you to do better….” She’s a professional. An incredibly highly paid one. We expect more from professionals.

    I do care if she was lip syncing.  I don’t think Bruce Springsteen, Roger Daltrey, or Mick Jagger had to.  I don’t understand why anyone would pay to see someone lip sync on stage, or why anyone would want to hire performers who don’t have the confidence to sing live..this includes acts on SNL or any so-called “live” performance.

    um, she was CLEARLY lip syncing. Anyone who thinks otherwise has sadly never seen a live performance. 

    And yeah, it matters. It’s music. Since when did “music” become synonymous with “jumping around on stage mouthing the words to your pre-recorded greatest hits”? Sad.

    Madonna lip synced that performance, duh!  It’s fake, and it’s un-American!  I’d rather see a real act, with some pitchiness, than watch a fake performance.  I don’t care about dancing.  I wish that the superbowl exec’s cared more about quality performance.  Lip syncing should be a punishable offense, especially if you’re charging $$outragous per ticket

    Tom Petty didn’t lip sync.  There are some real acts out there.  I bet that there are plenty of real artists who would kill for the opportunity to play on that stage.  Muse would have KILLED IT!  (without lip syncing).  Madonna can’t sing anymore, otherwise she would have proved it on the biggest stage of the year.

    Okay, so she’s a dancer, not a musician. 

    I’m sorry, if she would rather lip sync and dance, she’s not a musician. Broadway performers in their mid-fifties have to sing and dance extraordinarily well for 2 hours straight daily. If she can’t even do that, then she’s not an artist. Seriously, why are you successful Madonna? At least show some pride in your work. If you want to give a performance…freaking, work on it! Don’t sacrifice THE MUSIC THAT MADE YOU POPULAR to do it.

    LMFAO are much more of musicians than Madonna. They DESERVE more credit than her. Whenever they do a live show, they’re focused hard on their keyboards and synths, singing. THAT’S an artist at work.
