Before officially accepting the role of Quicksilver (also known as Pietro Maximoff) in the new Marvel film Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron Taylor-Johnson wanted to really get to know his character.
Taylor-Johnson spent time in discussion with writer-director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, as well as others at Marvel to get a better understanding of his character. He wanted to know the back story, his relationship with his sister, his role in the film, his character’s superhuman speed, and even his physical appearance.
“There were a few comic books that we took reference from,” Taylor-Johnson tells E! News. While joining the cast of this incredibly popular film franchise was a bit intimidating, he says that the experience has been “super surreal and overwhelming… but it’s been great.”
Along with familiar characters that we know and love, some new ones are introduced to us. Taylor-Johnson’s onscreen twin sister, Wanda Maximoff (better known as Scarlett Witch) is played by award-winning actress Elizabeth Olsen. Her character has mind control powers, performing hypnosis and telekinesis. Emmy winner James Spader plays the menacing robot Ultron, and was Whedon’s only choice for the role.
Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on Friday, May 1st 2015.
