Amanda Bynes is currently in New York City and allegedly tried to shoplift at two separate stores in the same day. Is Amanda trying to shoplift, playing dumb about it or is she mentally ill and doesn’t think the items that she’s picking up are to be paid for? It’s a question only Amanda knows the answer to, and right now, she doesn’t have the capacity to provide any real answers.
Amanda made headlines for shoplifting twice while in New York. First, the troubled actress went into a Bloomingdales and tried to walk out with a hat worth $200. When leaving the establishment, she was stopped by security guards who asked her to pay for the hat or return it. She claimed that she was looking for her driver, but was also using the hat to disguise herself because she was being chased by a rabid fan.
The security guards let Amanda go prior to the arrival of the local authorities, so no charges were filed. Of course, letting her go didn’t stop the store from contacting TMZ to alert the media about Amanda’s attempt at theft.
Amanda said in an interview, “I was walking out of the store to get my handbag out of the car. I had been harassed by a man – a man and this woman were basically trying to take my picture inside the store, and so I asked them to stop taking it, but they wouldn’t. They were like paparazzi but undercover.”
She also claimed to have notified one of the store’s security guards prior to attempting to leave, but said that the guard who stopped her didn’t know about it. She said, “I walked out of the store and the sensor went off. I didn’t realize I was wearing my cap. And the cap – I was purchasing it, and I was actually still shopping.”
It was also said that Amanda was barred from shopping at the store and she confirmed the reports that they asked her not to return. She said, “I basically just had to leave. They said, ‘Please, don’t shop at Barneys anymore.’ But oh well. It’s fine.”
Later the same day, Amanda went into Pookie & Sebastian where she tried to make off with a shirt worth $128. When questioned about the shirt, which was said to have been tucked into her arms, she responded with, “Do I really have to buy this?”
When informed by store personnel that she indeed had to pay for the item, she whipped out her credit card and paid for the shirt on the spot. Employees had originally began following her around because she was walking around mumbling about plastic surgery. Employees said that they thought she was a half naked homeless person.
It’s a sad situation all the way around and we just hope that she gets the help that she obviously needs.
