American Idol Recap: Top 8 Performance Episode 4/4/12

On last week’s performance episode of American Idol, the top nine contestants belted out songs from their idols. The judges’ praise wasn’t enough to save Heejun Han from elimination, even after he sang his heart out for the judges at the end of the show. In case you’ve missed that episode of the show, you can read our full recap here.

We Elise Testone and Phillip Phillips really cementing their ground as serious contenders for the show’s crown. It isn’t exactly anything new for Phillip, who has consistently shown that he has what it takes to keep on in the competition (even overcoming illness to stick around!) Elise finally showed off her talent, so it’s anyone’s game at this point.

Tonight, the theme for the show is songs from the 80’s and the contestants will be mentored by No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal.

Here’s who’s left in the competition: Phillip Phillips, Elise Testone, DeAndre Brackensick, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Jessica Sanchez, Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine. Here’s a lineup of songs that we would like to hear each of them tackle on tonight’s performance episode:

Phillip – In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins
Elise – Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler
DeAndre – When Doves Cry by Prince
Joshua – Superfreak by Rick James
Hollie – Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper
Jessica – Take My Breath Away by Berlin
Colton – Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue
Skylar – Only In My Dreams by Debbie Gibson

What do you want to hear them sing tonight? As always, stay tuned for up-to-the-minute coverage of the show, as it airs tonight at 8PM EST!
