Pursuant to reports that Andrew Garfield snubbed Batkid Miles Scott at the Oscars, we have learned that is not the case after all. It was said that Garfield refused to take the stage with the five-year-old cancer survivor, but we’ve learned that it was the Academy who actually cut their skit from the show. In addition, Garfield had a problem with the presentation of Scott — but only because he found the speech to be exploitative.
After the Oscars, Garfield and Scott enjoyed some time with his family at Disneyland in California on Monday. An Academy spokesperson has cleared the air surrounding the story, blaming Garfield and Scott’s removal from the live telecast due to time constraints.
The rep revealed, “Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production. Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with five-year-old Miles Scott and his family.”
