Pharrell Williams made headlines when he wore the above hat at the Grammy Awards earlier this year. Afterward, Arby’s hit him up on Twitter to ask for their hat back. They tweeted, “Hey @Pharrell, can we have our hat back? #GRAMMYs” Cute enough, right?
Well, the fun and shenanigans didn’t stop there… He put the hat on eBay in order to benefit his own charity One Hand To Another. From the auction’s description:
Now is your chance to own a piece of pop culture history! Bid on Pharrell Williams’ Vivienne Westwood “Mountain” hat that was one of the biggest hits of the 2014 GRAMMY Awards.
Designer: Vivienne Westwood
The hat comes with a Letter of Authenticity.
All proceeds benefit From One Hand to Another whose mission is to help change the world one kid at a time by giving them the tools and resources to meet their unique potential and empower them to nurture curiosity by learning through new technologies, arts, media and motivation!
After the auction ended last night, Pharrell took to his official Twitter account to offer his thanks. He tweeted, “Thank you to whoever bought my Grammy hat on @eBay for $44,100. Your donation benefits From One Hand To AnOTHER.”
To that, Arby’s responded, “@Pharrell You’re welcome. We’re HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back. Good luck at the #Oscars tonight! pic.twitter.com/2oA7qDPX9z”
Kudos to them on making a difference with Pharrell’s charity, but part of us thinks it was an elaborate publicity stunt. What do you think? Hit the comments and let us know your thoughts!
