Time to start practicing your dog barks and fist pumping, and get ready for the familiar cry of “Let’s Get Busy!” Arsenio Hall has announced that he will return to the late night TV talk show circuit in 2013. Hall had a successful run in the early 90’s with “The Arsenio Hall Show,” which ran in syndication between 1989 and 1994. Hall was a popular and widely watched alternative to the old “Tonight Show,” which at that time was still being hosted by legendary TV talk show host Johnny Carson. Following Carson’s retirement and handing the reigns off to Jay Leno, Hall boasted that he would “kick Jay’s a–” in the late night TV wars.
Hall’s new show will be produced by the Tribune TV network, owned by CBS Television Distribution, and will run on 17 stations in syndication. CBS Television officials say that they are excited to have Arsenio re-enter the late night TV talk show fray, and add that Hall’s prime demographic for “The Arsenio Hall Show” in the 90’s, which at that time was in the 18-34 age range, is now the primary age demographic for late night TV today, which spans the 35-54 year old range.
Hall’s show was replete with memorable TV moments during it’s run, including then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton playing saxophone with Hall’s studio band, appearances from an up and coming Paula Abdul, and weekly staples of the show such as Hall’s “Things That Make You Go Hmmm…”comedy routine.
Hall made the annoucement Monday afternoon, and told his fans that he’s happy to be going back to his roots, adding “Let’s get busy…again!”
