The accusations against Bill Cosby keep mounting, but there are some people who are continuing to stand by the legendary comedian and actor. His wife Camille has issued a statement of support after he came forward to say that he expects black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and go in with a neutral mind.
Now that he has put his foot in his mouth, his wife has decided to put her best foot forward. Some are calling his wife of fifty years complicit in his acts because she is now defending him despite the fact that over two dozen women have come forward to make accusations against her husband.
He is the man you thought you knew. A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know. It is also a portrait painted by individuals and organizations whom many in the media have given a pass. There appears to be no vetting of my husband’s accusers before stories are published or aired. An accusation is published, and immediately goes viral. None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking a victim. But the question should be asked — who is the victim?
Is Bill Cosby a victim? It seems unlikely considering how many women have already come forward. So many women, some famous and most not, have come forward with similar accusations. It’s sad that he has allegedly gotten away with his crimes for so long and he should have to face a court of law in order to determine his guilt or innocence. Are we supposed to take his wife’s word for it that he isn’t an abuser? She is wealthy because of him and would unlikely say anything against her husband…. What do you think?
