Country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus decided it was time to commemorate his time in the singing spotlight with his song Achy Breaky Heart — by turning the viral classic into a rap song!
The singer/actor teamed up with rapper Buck 22 for the collaboration and it is out of this world. It has a funky rap beat and is a rather unique update on the song that made him a household name. You can listen to the track and watch the video below:
Billy Ray recorded the song for his 1992 album Some Gave All after the Oak Ridge Boys declined to use it. It was Billy Ray’s most successful song in his discography and it made line dancing a craze. Obviously, with this rap version of the song, he is trying to relive his glory days.
It features half-naked tape-covered alien chicks who twerk and the concept is just outrageous. It’s like Billy Ray Cyrus just wants to hop back into a time machine and rewind to that fifteen minutes when he was famous for a reason. Despite all of that, it’s still better than anything Kim Kardashian ever put out, so there’s that.
Buck 22 spoke to Rolling Stone about the proposal of a revamped song and Billy Ray’s agreement. He told the publication, “I asked him if he would mind if I could take a crack at remaking ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ and he looked at me for a moment, and said ‘lots of people have tried already, but go for it.’ He didn’t have a clue that I had already gone into the lab and cooked up a demo of what I thought would be a fun EDM/hip hop styled version, which at the time only had a sample from the original of his voice. He liked what he heard and, weeks later, arrived at the session to record this track.”
Do you think he called up his more famous daughter for pointers on the video before it was released? Or is he going to beg her to share the video with her millions of Twitter followers? Have your say on the video in the comments section below.
