In the wake of Bruce Jenner’s interview with Diane Sawyer in which he confirmed that he is transitioning to living life as a woman, support from his family and from other celebrities has come pouring in through Twitter and other social media outlets. In the interview, Bruce used male pronouns to refer to himself, and so, with a respectful nod to the beautiful woman he is becoming, Bruce will be referred to in male pronouns per his own preferences at this time.
As of midnight Friday night, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Andy Cohen, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Billie Jean King, Howard Stern, and Russell Simmons all posted their support and well wishes for Bruce in what is sure to a difficult time as he makes the choice to transition beneath the public eye.
Ellen DeGeneres, who endured backlash when she came out publicly as a lesbian, said, “Bruce Jenner is a beautiful, brave human being. Sending him lots of love. He’s saving lives and opening minds tonight. I’m glad he has supportive, loving children to help him through.” Elton John also noted Jenner’s bravery and the affect this could have on our society saying, “It’s an incredibly brave thing to do, especially when you’re older.
