Cheryl Cole is suing “The X Factor USA” for a whopping $2.3 million because she claims that she is owed money after she was fired before the beginning of the first season of the hit talent competition. She sat in on some of the audition rounds for the first season of the show, but was fired shortly thereafter and replaced by The Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger. It was said that she was terminated because the producers of the show thought that American audiences wouldn’t be able to decipher her thick accent. For the record, we thought she was fierce on the show…
She was said to have received her full pay for the show’s first season, even only after appearing in a few episodes, but says that they still owe her money and she wants them to pay up. Reportedly, she has a “pay or play” contract with the show’s production company and that assures her a $2 million payout for the second season of the show, even if she doesn’t appear as a judge on it.
In addition to all of that, Cheryl claims that she is owed all kinds of expenses which are tied to her brief stint on the show. She wants $100,000 for her wardrobe allowance, a stylist for $25,000 and $15,000 per month for each of the hotels she stayed at in Los Angeles during the taping of the show.
A source said, “This has sent shockwaves through Hollywood. It could be disastrous for Simon because he has publicly taken responsibility for firing Cheryl. He will almost certainly be deposed. And Cheryl could face huge legal fees if the case goes against her. She’s taking a big gamble because she was paid her full salary for one season, even though she only worked for a matter of weeks. It could be perceived that she was handsomely rewarded for her work.”
At the time of her firing, Cheryl said, “Simon didn’t even have the guts to phone or send me a message warning me what was coming. I was furious…I believed we had a good friendship and I couldn’t understand why he hadn’t been straight with me.”
Despite all of that, we’re guessing that if the contract is legitimate in the fact that they had to pay her for the second season, then Simon will do his best to cough up the dough. What do you think?
