One half of the 90’s rap group Kriss Kross, Chris Kelly, AKA “Mac Daddy” – has passed away at the young age of only 34-years-old. An investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the death.
The rapper was pronounced dead at around 5PM Wednesday at the south campus of the Atlanta Medical Center. So far, the cause of death has yet to be revealed, but the rumors that are making the rounds suggest that the singer has died from a drug overdose. An autopsy is set to take place later today, Thursday, May 2nd.
Cpl Kay Lester, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County police said, “It appears it may have been a possible drug overdose.”
Chris’ mother, Donna Kelly Pratte and So So Def released a statement, saying, “It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1. To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris – the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Those he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him.”
May he rest in peace. Stay tuned for any further updates as this story develops…
