Country music singer, songwriter and guitarist Ray Price has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 87-years-old. He battled cancer for a year, but succumbed to the illness at his ranch in Texas on Monday.
On November 6, 2012, Price confirmed that he was fighting pancreatic cancer. It was at that time that Price told the media that he underwent six months of chemotherapy in treatment for his cancer diagnosis. He was offered to have surgery that would’ve removed the pancreas along with portions of his stomach and liver, but that didn’t seem like a viable solution for the singer. He said, “That’s not very much an option for me. God knows I want to live as long as I can but I don’t want to live like that. The doctor said that every man will get cancer if he lives to be old enough. I don’t know why I got it – I ain’t old!”
Earlier this year, his cancer seemed to be in remission, but he was later hospitalized for dehydration. On December 2, 2013, he was hospitalized, finding himself in the final stages of cancer. His son revealed that he left December 12th in order to enter into hospice care. He passed away on December 16, 2013 at his Mt. Pleasant home.
May he rest in peace. Our condolences go out to his family and friends in this tough time. Leave your best wishes in the comments section below.
