Doris Singleton of “I Love Lucy” fame, has passed away at the age of 92-years-old. She had several television roles, but was best known for her portrayal of Lucy and Ricky’s neighbor, Carolyn Appleby.
Lucy and Desi Arnaz’s daughter Lucie confirmed the news of Doris’ passing. She said on her Facebook page, “A day of saying hasta luego to two great ladies, Nora Ephron and Doris Singleton. May they both fly swiftly heavenward and enjoy a blissful rest for jobs well done down here. They were loved and appreciated and will be missed.”
She passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in Los Angeles. In an interview from 2005, Doris recalled her first episode of the hit TV show and said that the name Carolyn was the name of Lucille Ball’s school teacher. She revealed at the time, “She was nice to me, and she really liked my work”, adding that if Lucy didn’t like you, “you didn’t come back.”
At the time of her passing, she was the last recurring adult cast member from the “Lucy” shows that was still surviving. She left behind no children or immediate survivors. May she rest in peace.
