Exclusive Charlie Drown interview!

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Charlie Drown. Woot!

Here is our conversation:

Q: What is the most influential music that inspires you to write?

A: Listening to nothing is actually what inspires me more.

Q: Your music has a chick-like Marilyn Manson feel to it, would you ever consider doing a collaboration with Manson, if the opportunity presented itself?

A: I had the opportunity once, things changed and did not happen, but he would be on my top list of people I would want to do stuff with. And when I say do stuff… I mean sexy stuff.

Q: How do you come up with the lyrics to your music? Who writes it?

A: I write most of my music myself unless I am doing a collaboration with a musician or a cover song. My lyrics or the “story” usually presents itself to me first and the music and lyrics come from a theatrical scene in my head.

Q: What is your favorite song?

A: It changes daily. I can honestly say I don’t have a favorite.

Q: Who inspires you the most? The least?

A: There is no single answer for either of those questions. I need to inspire myself first and foremost.

Q: Have you had any vocal training? You have a very powerful voice.

A: Yes, classical training at one point.

Q: I noticed that you opened up for KMFDM, what was that like?

A: It was like playing on a postage stamp sized stage around all their gear!!! I love those guys and any opportunity to hang out, play or just eat sushi and drink with them is a pleasure!

Q: If I were to see you live, what could I expect?

A: I fill the place with energy and drama, I will give you your monies worth.

Q: Would you consider your music metal? Or a sort-of speed/dance/rock with a tinge of metal?

A: I do not know what to call it. Dance Metal… haha

Q: Is it hard being a female vocalist in such a hard-hitting band? Or is it a blessing? Or both?

A: It is never hard to be female if you do it with respect and have the ability to learn as much as you can so that you can go head to head with the boys of the genre. Relying on being a girl and staying uneducated in a technical sense is sucky. Learn girls! We need to do more than sing and shake our fucking asses!

Q: Any words of wisdom to your fans?

A: Kill your parents, take lots of drugs and quit school at 13!!! haha

A special big thanks to Charlie Drown for taking the time to answer my questions. You can visit their website or myspace page for more info.
