E.L. James’ book Fifty Shades Of Grey had a lot of sex scenes and some hilariously awful writing, but there are some things that never made it to the widely anticipated movie adaptation starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.
The most notable moment fans won’t see on the silver screen: the infamous tampon scene between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
“It didn’t make it into the movie,” director Sam Taylor-Johnson told Variety. “It was never even discussed.”
One of the movie’s producers, Michael De Luca, defended the choice to leave out the interaction between Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson’s characters in which he pulls out her tampon so the two can get busy.
“The book needed to put you in Ana’s shoes to be a successful experience,” he said in the article. “A lot of it was very literal. The movie didn’t need to do that.”
With regard to the sex scenes in the movie, the director Sam Taylor-Johnson said, “The sex scenes are integral to the story. They are not gratuitous. It tracks the story.”
E.L. James said that she hopes fans will enjoy the movie adaptation of the trilogy. She added, “It’s pretty much impossible to capture every single aspect of a book in a movie. But we’ve done our best to emulate the spirit of the book and I hope the fans feel we’ve succeeded.”
Will you be heading out to the theater on February 13, 2015 to watch the first movie play out on the big screen?
Fifty Shades Of Grey stars Jamie Dornan as the billionaire S&M lover Christian Grey, while college virgin Anastasia Steele is played by Dakota Johnson.
