TLC has saw fit to cancel their super popular reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” following the news that the show’s matriarch, Mama June Shannon, has been dating convicted child molester Mark McDaniel.
Shannon was said to be dating McDaniel ten years ago, but he was sent to prison on a child molestation conviction for that time. After she called time on her relationship with Sugar Bear, it was said that she’d rekindled her romance with McDaniel. TMZ posted a photo of them together, thus leading the network to investigate the unsettling claims. Upon further review, TLC has cancelled “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”.
Shannon denied the reports of her relationship with McDaniel, but the network has stopped all production on the show. A rep from TLC said, “TLC has cancelled the series ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately. Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being.”
Since the announcement was made, Shannon has taken to her daughter Alana Thompson’s Facebook page to refute the claims. She said, “Just got a phone call this morning from TLC, and as of right now there will be no more production of the show. The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue. I would not ever ever ever put my kids in danger.”
In a video posting, Shannon says that the network basically told her to keep “hush hush” about the scandal. It suggests that TLC has known about the dating scandal for quite some time and perhaps wanted to wait on cancelling the show unless the scandal blew over.
As you may know, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is popular and was making a killing in profits for TLC. It seems likely to assume that they didn’t want the scandal to force a cancellation and they were hoping that the news of Shannon’s choice in men wouldn’t get out — to protect their investment.
