If you’ve ever seen or heard Ice Cube’s famous song, It Was A Good Day and scratched your head wondering what day he was referring to, you’re in luck. Ice Cube left a lot of hints in his lyrics for the 1993 song from The Predator.
He revealed the concept behind the song (via Wikipedia):
The inspiration was my life at the time … I was at the top of the rap game. It was the summer of ’92 and I was in a hotel room, really in a state of euphoria. I had all the money I had dreamed of. I was in a good frame of mind. And I remember thinking, ‘Okay, there’s been the riots, people know I will deal with that. That’s a given. But I rap all this gangsta stuff – what about all the good days I had?
Donovan at Murk Avenue has laid out all of the clues surrounding the exact good day that Ice Cube was referring to in his song.
The ONLY day where:
Yo MTV Raps was on air
It was a clear and smogless day
Beepers were commercially sold
Lakers beat the SuperSonics
and Ice Cube had no events to attend was…
JANUARY 20 1992
National Good Day Day
The only correction we would have for Donovan would be the song title, which is not “Today Was A Good Day”, but “It Was A Good Day”. Still, well done, sir. If the news would have hit on the twentieth year anniversary of the “Good Day”, that would have been awesome.
Will you celebrate Ice Cube’s Good Day next year?
