Jimmy Fallon To Replace Jay Leno On 'The Tonight Show'?

Is Jimmy Fallon going to be replacing Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” for the 2013-14 season? If so, it wouldn’t be because he [Leno] really wants to step down. Of course, we all remember how Leno did Conan O’Brien when he tried to step down the first time back in 2010. A short while later after his show tanked in the ratings, he insisted that he take the reins back over from Conan.

Now, it appears that Jay might be replaced against his own will. Reportedly, Jimmy Fallon will be announced as the new host of the show in the summer. A source close to the situation said that the network wanted to bring Jimmy Fallon in to combat Jimmy Kimmel’s move to the 11:35PM time slot.

A source said, “The more time Jimmy Kimmel is in that slot, the more the young audience goes that way, the harder it is for [Fallon] to keep that audience.”

Another source revealed, “Kimmel has done extremely well. Jay wins overall, but on any given night, it’s neck-and-neck in 18-49. I understand where they might have fear and also feel that they own the solution [in Fallon].”
