Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty To Dodging Taxes

Lauryn Hill was charged with failing to file her federal tax returns between 2005 and 2007, despite earning more than $1.8 million during the two-year span. Recently, the R&B singer pleaded guilty to the charges and can face a maximum penalty of one year in prison in addition to a $100,000 fine for each charge.

During her court appearance, she said little to defend herself. She was released on bail in the amount of $150,000 and is also allowed to leave the country for touring purposes.

She released a statement earlier this month saying that she had chosen to defer payments because she was retreating from society. She is due back in court on November 27, 2012.

Why didn’t she just pay her taxes in the first place? We don’t get how rich celebrities earn a ton of cash and don’t do the most basic things. Hire an accountant and get your business taken care of.
