Last night’s episode of Mad Men offered something shocking (a little bit?), Peggy doing something crazy and Roger having some marriage trouble. In case you have missed the show, you can read our full, detailed recap right here.
WARNING: This post contains spoilers for last night’s Mad Men episode, titled Far Away Places, so if you have yet to see it, avert your eyes now.
Don took Megan away for a weekend at the Howard Johnson’s hotel in Plattsburgh, New York. It was supposed to be a weekend of pampering and getting the best treatment, but it ended up badly for the married couple. Don took her away from the Heinz pitch and decided to let Peggy handle it. So when they got to the hotel, he wanted her to act a certain way, but she wasn’t feeling it. She ended up yelling at him and in the middle of that, he just left her standing there in the parking lot and drove off.
Later, he came back to get her, but she was nowhere to be found. He was worrying himself sick, asking anybody and everybody if they’d seen her. As it turns out, she went back to Chateau Draper and chained the door. He had to kick the door down to get in and ended up chasing her all over the place before they ended up on the floor together — and not in a good way this time.
Peggy ended up blowing the Heinz pitch after trying to convince Raymond that her pitch is exactly what he wanted. He wasn’t happy, leading Pete to come in and tell her that he’s taking her off of the account. Later, Peggy makes her way to the theater, smokes a joint with some random guy and gives him a handjob. Stay classy, Peggy.
Roger opted out of the trip with Don to Howard Johnson’s and ended up taking Jane to visit some of her friends. He tried to get out of it, but she insisted. They all ended up doing LSD, when he sees Don in his mirror telling him that Jane wants to be alone with him “in the truth”. So Roger lays with Jane and they discover that they don’t really like each other and that their marriage is over. The next day, Roger recalls Jane telling him of how her doctor told her that their marriage was over and neither of them wanted to say it. She doesn’t remember saying that, but in reality, their marriage really is over.
Does that leave room for Roger to get together with Joan? I could see that happening, considering that she already has his baby…Couldn’t you?
As far as highlights are concerned, the whole Roger Sterling LSD trip was the best highlight of the entire show. In the end, Roger tells Don that this is going to be a wonderful day. Is he just happy that he could finally admit that things weren’t working out with Jane?
