Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis threatened Madonna with a lawsuit if she performed her song, then titled Girls Gone Wild, if she performed it at the Super Bowl earlier this year. Since, Madonna has changed the title of her song to Girl Gone Wild.
According to her manager, Guy Oseary, Madge didn’t change the name of her song because of Joe’s legal threats. Guy said that he found it laughable that Joe called the song change a victory after his camp sent the singer a cease and desist letter over the Super Bowl performance. He also revealed that no one in Madge’s camp even received Joe’s letter.
Guy also revealed that they changed the song’s title because that’s the way that she sings it in the song itself. TMZ has more:
And Oseary scoffs at Francis’ claim that he owns the title, “Girls Gone Wild,” citing a Billboard story that claims there are 50 records called “Girls Gone Wild,” including songs by Ludacris, Jagged Edge, T Mills, Lee Kernaghan, Lil Rick and Jackie Kashian.
And finally, Oseary says Madonna doesn’t even know who Joe Francis is … and claims she’s completely unaware he’s been making threats.
Do you think she had the song changed because of Joe’s threats? Or is her manager right in saying that she doesn’t even know who he is? What do you think?
