Madonna rejected ‘Black Madonna’ cover art & album title

madonna_hard_candyThe rumored name for Madonna’s “Hard Candy” album was said to be “Licorice”, but according to sources, Madge had other plans for the album.

She originally planned to call the album, “Black Madonna”, showing her posing in black face makeup with red lips, but rejected it. I guess she wanted to be controversial, but not that controversial. Madonna took a moment and thought, “Hmmm…do I wanna alienate people? No? Okay, let’s scrap it.”

In an interview with “Rolling Stone”, she said, “I painted my face black, except for red lips and white eyes. It was a play on words. Have you ever heard of the Black Madonna? It has layers of meaning, and, for a minute, I thought it would be a fun title…Then I thought, ’25 percent of the world might get this, probably less, it’s not worth it.'”

Smart move on her part, because the other 75 percent might’ve been screaming “racist”.
