Now that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler both announced that they were leaving “American Idol”, the hunt was on to learn who would be replacing them at the judge’s table. A question of whether or not long-time judge Randy Jackson would stay on was also lingering with fans.
Just yesterday, we learned an answer to one of our questions upon hearing the reports that Mariah Carey is bringing her glitter parade to the show. For $18 million for her first year, no less. Nick Cannon commented that he wouldn’t let her out of the house for less than $100 million, but we’re guessing that he has no problem settling for $18 million.
The newly inked deal makes Mariah the highest paid judge in reality television. Jennifer Lopez received $12 million for her first year on the singing competition, while Britney Spears is raking in $15 million for her first year as a judge on “The X Factor”. Of course, Demi Lovato’s contract for one million is laughable, in comparison.
Mariah took to her official Twitter account to say, “It’s gonna be so much fun working on American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! – MC”.
Are you excited to see Mariah Carey judging the new talent on the upcoming season of “American Idol”? Who do you think would be a good fit sitting next to her?
