Melanie Griffith has filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years, Antonio Banderas. Shocking, isn’t it?
We were of the mind that these two would last forever, but in Hollywood, 18 years is certainly a long time. Reportedly, they have called time on their long-term marriage several months ago, but she has filed for divorce from the actor citing irreconcilable differences.
According to reports, they were actually waiting for the right time to announce that they’d split up. Is there really a right time to announce something like that?
A source revealed, “They have not been happy for a long time and they have taken a lot of breaks already so their estrangement is nothing new. They wanted to wait til the timing was right to announce their divorce. It’s not a rash decision.”
The former duo has issued a statement regarding their split, saying, “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together.”
Melanie is said to be seeking child support and sole physical and joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter Stella. She is also looking for a judge to award her spousal support in the divorce documents which were filed by her attorney Laura Wasser.
Were you surprised that they have called it quits after being together for so long? We has previously heard reports of some turmoil within their marriage, but when asked about it, they both denied anything was going on. Now, they have apparently blindsided the public on a Friday with the news that they are divorcing.
Why do you think they are actually splitting up after being together for so long? Do you think that there was some cheating going on? Or perhaps Melanie was sticking around waiting for their daughter to turn 18, but just couldn’t take it anymore? It’s Hollywood, so anything can happen really. What are your thoughts on the matter?
