There has been rumor after rumor surrounding former Disney queen Miley Cyrus’ relationship with Australian actor Liam Hemsworth ever since they began dating. After having met on the set of the 2009 movie The Last Song, the duo became engaged in 2012. They have had their ups and downs, but they seemed to get through them. That was until the duo called it quits just recently.
There were rumors of infidelity on both of their parts. Most notably, he was connected to Mad Men actress January Jones in the earlier part of 2013. Those rumors went unanswered on all three parts, but it was hard to deny that something was going on.
While making her new album Bangerz, Miley insisted that she put every piece of herself into the record. At the time, it seemed as if she really did put all of herself into the album — no matter the cost. It turned out to be a more personal cost, but she didn’t seem to care.
Since promoting her new record everywhere possible utilizing her performance on the Video Music Awards and other venues, she looked to ramp up publicity for the album. During all of that time, she had yet to break her silence on what exactly happened between herself and Liam.
Now, in a new appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, the 20-year-old singer opened up for the first time about her breakup. Ellen said, “So the last time you were here, I threw you an engagement party.”
To that, Miley replied, “Do you want your money back?”
Ellen said in response, “I want my money back. I sent like, you, [strippers]. You enjoyed it.”
Miley said, “I should’ve kept one of those dudes’ numbers”, adding that it’s “not awkward” talking about their split “because I’m living it.”
Miley continued, “I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do. I just believe when a chapter is done you have to close it and start that new one. That’s kind of where I am right now. I felt like I have so much to be thankful for at this time that my energy hasn’t really been focused on that.”
She is doing the best that she can in order to get through their breakup and still publicly promote her album, so we can’t really ask for much else. What do you think of Miley’s transformation? Has she gone too far in making sure her fans know that she’s not Hannah Montana anymore?
