Just a couple of days ago, it was announced that executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was fired from his duties at American Idol. Now that he and Ken Warwick are out, he has a suggestion for the show’s upcoming season.
Despite the show recruiting Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj as big draws for viewership, the show was still tanking with regard to ratings. Now, Nigel says that the show should return to its original format in order to avoid getting the boot from the network.
In a new interview, he said, “I believe in getting people together, testing their chemistry which is what I did with Randy, Paula and Simon. After that, whoever you bring in is a risk because we’ve seen it happen before. It’s one of those things, you don’t know how anybody’s going to be as a judge. You could be the greatest singer in the world but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to be a good judge. That little team, Randy, Paula and Simon, again are the template for judges forever now.”
Do you think it would be a good idea to reunite the three former judges for the upcoming season? Does Nigel have a point here? Share your thoughts below!
