Shirley Manson defends Kristen Stewart

Shirley Manson took to her Facebook page on Thursday to discuss a rather hot topic, Kristen Stewart. She defended the actress in a long post titled, “A Total Eclipse of The Heart”.

Check it out below:

You know…….it’s kind of pathetic that I care.
I am ( afterall or allegedly) a fully mature woman.
But I can’t help it.
Why are people so turned off by Kristen Stewart?!?!?!
I don’t get it.
I think she’s the best thing about the entire Twilight franchise.
Absolutely.

She’s delicious to look at.
She’s a talented actress.
(I don’t care what anyone else has to say about her acting because I think she behaves EXACTLY the way me and all my pals did around that age of the character she is playing so THERE!)
AND she’s articulate.
And she’s a little shy.
And clearly very thoughtful.
What’s not to love?

I hate it when she gets trashed.
It hurts my teenage self.

And it annoys me that everyone laughs at her sullen portrayal of Bella.
What the hell do they want from her?
For her to ponce around like a so called normal teenager and smile a little more, no doubt.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr………

SAVE OUR SMART GIRLS
SAVE THEM NOW
DO NOT MAKE THEM SMILE
DON’T DO IT
pretty please?
x

What do you think? Do you think Kristen gets a bad rep?

I think Shirley has a justifiable point. A lot of people diss Kristen Stewart just because she doesn't conform to the conventional Hollywood stereotype for young actresses – they're expected to be smiley, exquisitely manicured and put together in a way that only brings one word to mind: overkill. Not to mention, they have very little of real substance to offer in conversation or their perspectives of the world. Enter Kristen Stewart, who, although seemingly plain-looking, is actually smart & has depth of character. It's only the brainwashed masses (a.k.a. those who like to jump on the bandwagon) who point fingers as though their lives depended on it.

    GO KRISTEN, SET A PRECEDENT!

i don't mind that she doesn't conform. i mind that her acting has grown from tolerable to terrible. i mind that she chooses to star in simpering teen romances that do not feature/require her supposed intelligence.

I am a 58 year old happily-married woman with three grown boys and I love KRISTEN STEWART! I think she is unique, beautiful in a "real person" way and a very talented, honest actress. She and Diane Lane are two of my favorites!

I am a 57 year old professional woman and my husband and I love kristen Stewart….We first noticed her in Panic Room…When she portrayed Bella in Twilight I was happy to see that it was her….I think she is a great little actress…Did you see The Cake Eaters!! I think people ar simply jealous of her…she is beautiful, young and talented….Oh and she is dating a gorgeous guy!!,,,Leave her alone…no wonder she felt as if the public has "raped" her…. GOOD LUCK KRISTEN….we look forward to seeing your career take off!!!

I agree, she is a talented actress. Some actors don't mind being in the spotlight and some do; she is just a private person; nervous and very shy. Another obvious reason why people may not appreciate her is because they want to be where she is on and off the screen. Jealousy brings out the worst in people!!

I totally agree with shirley manson! There’s so many girls out here that don’t feel the need to be ‘cute’ ‘overtly sexy’ or be the stereotypical young adult. I love that Kristen Stewart is unique, wears converses with her dresses, is totally herself in interviews and is REAL. She’s gets many hateful comments on the way she portrays bella but she’s exactly the way many young girls would approach the situation. She’s shy, not always comfortable with all the publicity but who cares. She’s HERSELF. I think people are just jealous she’s one of the only teen actresses who doesn’t have to act like an airhead or be half naked to get attention. I love her, she’s a great role model and I hope she stays the way she is. God bless Kristen!!!

I am a 44 year old woman with two daughters growing up! and I can feel the presure on my eldest as she is becoming a young lady…I can’t imagine going through that path and on top of it have the whole world to watch. Because this young girl is such a talented actress and at this early stage, it’s simply amazing. She is enduring all this because she is that great! And of course I might add she very smart and intelligent both…I went to law school and might not be the best judge but I did my homework…just let her be! She is doing great in every way.

i love kristen! i think it's great that she's different than other actresses her age. i hope she doesn't ever change herself to appease the jealous bitches who talk crap about her. it's nice to know that there are some people in hollywood who are unique, intelligent and kinda maybe a little socially shy. i'd rather hear about her than these other boring actresses who are all about being in the spotlight. kristen's interesting and i really hope she doesn't change. she seems like a really genuine person and it sucks to think about how much crap people give her. kristen, keep doing your thing and don't even think about the haters. keep your head up and always stay true to your nature.

    @ riddle :

You might want to check out some of the other flicks she's starred in – not all fit into the "simpering teen romance" category you've classed her in. Her performance as Joan Jett in the Runaways is one such example of her unique talent – her ability to adapt. I've heard it said before that she has the face / bone structure to convey pathos in a way that can translate into varied characters. At best, we might be inclined to describe her performance style at this point as subtle, telling & thoughtful. In no way has she had to resort to extremities in her acting roles (screamy / obnoxious / frothy behaviour) to convey expression or 'acting ability' (as is the case with many popular actresses, some of whom are even older than her). Instead, she tends to offer a more introspective take on her characters, which provides audiences with a deeper dimension for thought.

Of course, there is still plenty of room for development, e.g. she could do away with twitches and lip bites, and vary the use of her voice and physical space – but this will come over time. She, herself, is only beginning to make sense of her art, and I like that she values the prospect of not having a scheme in mind for future roles. I think there is a lot we can expect from this leading lady in the foreseable future – and she will take the opportunities with open arms.

That picture must be at least 12 years old. She looks much prettier now than then!!
