'Star Wars' Creator George Lucas Engaged To Mellody Hobson

“Star Wars” creator George Lucas has gotten engaged to his long-time girlfriend Mellody Hobson, according to reports.

The engagement announcement comes just months after Lucas sold off Lucasfilm to the Walt Disney Company for $4.05 billion. Afterward, he donated the proceeds from the sale to an education foundation. Of that, he said, “As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy.” USA TODAY reports:

Just months after selling Lucasfilm — and the rights to his Star Wars legacy — for $4.05 billion to the Walt Disney Co., Lucas, 68, is embarking on a new adventure with longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson. The couple are engaged after seven years of dating, a rep for Lucasfilm confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hobson, 43, is chairman for DreamWorks Animation and head of a Chicago-based investment management firm. It will be the first marriage for Hobson and the second for the famed director. Lucas was married to Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983.

No word yet on any wedding plans.

Congratulations to George and Mellody on their engagement news. NERDS UNITE!
