Beastie Boys Hit With Lawsuit A Before After Adam Yauch’s Death
by Jessica LeFevre on May.09, 2012, under articles

The Beastie Boys were hit with a lawsuit just one day after Adam Yauch’s untimely death. Adam, also known as MCA, passed away after a three year battle with cancer on May 4, 2012. On May 3rd, the popular rap group was sued over copyright infringement claims by a group called Trouble Funk. Talk about bad timing!
The funk group is claiming that the Beastie Boys wrongfully sampled material from their catalog on their albums “Licensed To Ill” and “Paul’s Boutique”. The group submitted their lawsuit on May 3rd and they allege that the Beastie Boys used samples from their songs, “Say What” and “Drop The Bomb” on four of their earlier tracks.
An attorney for the prosecution released a statement regarding the lawsuit to E! News. Kelly Talcott said, “I was very sorry to hear of Adam Yauch’s untimely passing, and can assure you that the unfortunate timing of the filing of TufAmerica’s complaint had nothing to do with his health. On behalf of myself and TufAmerica, I offer our condolences to Adam’s family, friends and fans.”
Unfortunate timing is an understatement. Besides that, we’ve listened to Trouble Funk’s songs and they don’t sound a thing like anything that the Beastie Boys have put out.
