Now that “The Bachelorette” is over, we know who Emily Maynard has chosen. It’s been a long season for Emily and it all came down to tonight’s decision between Jef Holm and Arie Luyendyk Jr. As you already know (if you’ve been watching The Bachelorette), Emily has chosen Jef Holm to propose to her in the Caribbean island of Curacao.
She told host Chris Harrison that she was positive of what she needed to do after introducing Jef to her daughter Ricki. They dragged out a two hour show, of which you can read the full recap here, just to hear her indecisiveness over her two remaining suitors.
Tonight, on the live “After The Final Rose” Special, all of the drama has been fast-forwarded to the present and we will get to see how things have been working out between Jef and Emily. Most of all, we will get to see how Arie is after the emotional breakup. She cried telling him that it was over and he left pretty abruptly, telling her that he wasn’t going to give her the goodbye that she wanted.
Refresh this page often to learn what’s going on with Arie, Jef and Emily as the “After The Final Rose” special airs at 10PM EST. In the meantime, tell us what you thought about Emily’s decision to choose Jef.
The show is live!
Emily is on the show first. Chris tells her she looks beautiful and in love. She says that she’s in love. On the topic of Jef, she says that he made her feel more confident in herself than she’s ever felt. He makes her laugh. She shows off the ring.
Before talking about all of her happiness, Chris wants to talk about Arie. She says that a part of her heart will always be with Arie. She said there is still some things that he wants to talk to Arie about. It’s a good thing — because he’s about to join Emily and Chris on stage. She says she didn’t give him a lot of closure and Curacao.
Arie says that watching the show really helped him and it was good for him. He has nothing but love for her and is glad to hear she’s happy. He was taken by surprise and said that viewers got to see a lot of their physical side. It was shocking for him. He had questions when he left and felt she couldn’t express her feelings for Jef. He left Curacao not knowing why she chose Jef and not him.
Emily tells Arie that she wants him to know that she’s so sorry and it was hard for her to watch that. She says he was everything she looked for and she needs to learn to be more direct. She had more confidence in what she and Jef had. He wished she would’ve said to him what she said to Chris.
After he left Curacao, Arie says he couldn’t go outside with that heartbreak. He booked a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina to see her. He wanted closure or a beginning off-camera. He got there and thought better of it when he got there. He said it didn’t feel right, so he left his journal for her to learn of his experiences on the show. She says out of respect for Arie and Jef, she didn’t read his journal. Arie is happy for Emily and Jef. He was so in love with her and wanted her to hear him through his journal. He thought it might change things and she would read it and feel that he was genuine. He’s happy that she’s happy and even speaks to Jef on the phone because they’re good friends.
Back together for the first time since the proposal, in public, Jef is there to see Emily. He says it felt like they met while they were out and about instead of on a TV show. He loves everything about her. He calls her perfect for him and they are perfect for each other. He lists all of the things that he loves about her. They share photos of Jef with Emily and Ricki together. Being a father figure to Ricki is so much fun and it’s exactly what he thought it would be and more. She’s well-behaved and fun.
Emily and Jef are watching their proposal for the first time since being in Curacao. She’s never had anyone to say such things about her heart. Chris asks what took her so long to respond to his proposal. She doesn’t remember and it was a blur. She doesn’t want to be the girl who gets engaged and never gets married — that would be lame.
He said that they’ve been keeping this a secret for so long and he kisses her. He’s going to take Emily to Africa and build wells there for his company People Water. As far as where they’re going to live is Jef is moving to Charlotte. He doesn’t want to uproot Ricki. He is getting a place separate from Emily and they will grow their lives together. They’re going to get married in Charleston. He doesn’t care where or when it is, as long as it’s with his best friend. As far as a timeframe when they want to get married, she says they don’t want to set anything in stone, but she would like a spring wedding.
