Judge Esmie Chondo ruled today that Madonna would not be allowed to adopt three-year-old Mercy James from Malawi.

She says, “I must decline to grant the application for the adoption of the infant.”

The ruling stemmed from Madonna’s lack of residency in the country. It leaves one to wonder why they bent the rules to allow her to adopt David Banda. She wasn’t a resident back then.

Madonna’s attorney said that she would appeal the decision. Good for her. I can’t believe that they want to make her abide by the laws now and not then.

I hope she wins in her bid to adopt Mercy. It just seems unfair to me that they could allow this child to live in the lap of luxury, but yet they decline her. Don’t give up Madge!

Madonna, who has already adopted David Banda from Malawi, is in the African country again to adopt another child, Mercy James (Photo here).

Mercy’s grandmother, Lucy Chekechiwa, isn’t fond of the idea of her granddaughter being adopted. She said, “Why doesn’t this singer pick other children? It is stealing. I want to go to court, I won’t let her go.”

Mercy’s mother, who was 18-years-old, passed away a few months after she was born and her father is said to be alive, but his whereabouts are unknown.

If her grandmother was able to take care of her, she wouldn’t be in an orphanage. Madonna will care for these kids much better than anyone else, even though her home is considered “broken” by their standards.
