He too, was caught off guard by the elimination episode last Thursday, but says that he was reassured by his girlfriend Heidi. He said, “She said she loves me to death and it’s all that really matters. Looking back, I auditioned because we couldn’t afford diapers – and I don’t think I have to worry about affording diapers now.”

He went on to reveal that he started dating Heidi, and that she changed him for the better. He said, “I was 19 with no car, no money, no license, no diploma. I was as low as you could get. I met her and everything changed and I wanted to be a better person.”

Looking to the future, James says that he is stoked to appear on the Idol summer tour and hopes to begin working on his debut album soon. Still, he has bigger plans before making all of that happen — he wants to get married!

James Durbin's Shocking 'American Idol' Elimination (Video)

Tears ran down the face of James Durbin as he made his American Idol exit performance of Paul McCartney’s song, Maybe I’m Amazed. Ryan Seacrest announced that Lauren Alania was safe first last night, leaving all of the viewers thinking that Haley Reinhart to be eliminated.

We were under the impression that James would be safe, considering that he has a whole lot of talent. Most of our audience polled came to the conclusion that Haley should’ve left last night due to her attitude. So when she was announced as the second person safe, all bets were off.

Then, as the night progressed, we had to ponder who exactly could be sent home out of the guys. Both James and Scotty McCreery gave pretty excellent performances last night, so we had to think that the rumors of “no one” being eliminated were true.

We covered the show live last night, check out our FULL RECAP here.

Check out the elimination video, below:

When it was announced that Scotty McCreery was going to be part of the top three in the singing competition, a collective shock swept across the nation. He performed well and cried during his final song.

Will James Durbin Prove To Be The Next ‘American Idol’ Winner?

Will James Durbin Prove To Be The Next 'American Idol' Winner?

James Durbin is versatile, there’s no doubt about that. On American Idol last night, he started off with Journey’s song, Don’t Stop Believin’, much to the judge’s delight.

Randy said that he covered one of the songs from the greatest rock band ever. The judges seemed very pleased with the song choice and touted James’ singing abilities. As a big Journey fan, I wasn’t that impressed with his version of the song. However, it proved that he can change it up with the best of them.

As far as the songs from the Leiber & Stoller songbook, he gave a different take on Love Potion No. 9. While Lady Gaga mentored the budding singer, she got up behind him and made him shake his hips. During his performance, he brought the song alive with his rock version. We saw a twinkle of Adam Lambert in his performance, which was surprisingly nice.

Jennifer commented that the song just proved that he really can just sing anything. Steven and Randy ate up the performance, and the crowd loved it.

Does James Durbin have the chops and versatility to become the next winner of American Idol? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
